Some Quick Hits about Bortles

 

-Bortles Regression this year might just be to our benefit if he does get it together, when it comes time to resign him it'll most likely drive down the price tag. 

 

-He said coming out of college he preferred to be coached "hard" that's clearly not what he's had to this point in his career. 

 

-Blake had a hand injury in the offseason that not only kept him from accepting the pro-bowl alternate invitation, but also kept him out of action for 6-8 weeks while it healed meaning he couldnt spend the most important downtime refining his throwing motion, it also didn't help that once it healed he opted to only spend a few days in california working with House and Dedeaux on his motion/mechanics rather than the weeks/months he spent out there the season before to marked improvement (he chose to stay in Duval and practice throwing to his receivers to develop more chemistry instead, but i trust that this offseason he'll decide against it or opt to bring them with him to Cali) 

 

-After his first season, he stated that his arm "deteriorated" from the non-stop action of throwing from college, all throughout the pre-draft process and straight into TC and the season. It's possible that based on the sheer volume of throws we ask of him each week coupled with the beating he takes behind this porous O-Line that his arm is shot or otherwise injured. 

 

-Playcalling hasn't been good, I'll admit Hackett's been better though. Fisch forcing him to throw screen after screen his rookie year made me groan as it's clearly not his forte, they also need to remove the shallow crosser to Lee from the playbook, everytime its off of Lee's hands/body (since he bodycatches a lot) into the air and in the defenders arms, ditto for the quick out that Blake stares down which has accounted for the Texans pick 6, The pick 6 to josh norman in the opener of 2014 etc. i've seen it too many times and cringe everytime i see it to start a play >_<.

 

-We need to call plays that cater to Bortles strengths, while his mechanics look shoddy in the pocket, he's somehow the #1 accurate quarterback in the NFL while rolling out of the pocket, not sure why it works but dont question it and call more of that, it just seems so obvious.  

 

We haven't been doing him any favors, aside from the refs, Hurns dropping wide open passes (especially at key times), stranger things esque interceptions off players feet when trying to turf the ball etc. Robinson not winning 50/50 balls as regularly and drops a bit too, utter lack of a running game, porous Offensive line that can hardly block. I'd be frustrated too as a young player that when you do play well everything else around you breaks down. I feel for him but he does still need to play better, with better coaching comes a better playbook for him and an offseason to get healthy and refine his motion again, he's proven he can do it lets just see him show some consistency.
