Carrier Stays in the US
|
Quote:I'm happy the jobs are staying here but it's the how and why that concerns me. As a libertarian/conservative it's fundamental that government should not interfere with the free market and create winners and losers. It's one thing to say across the board were reducing taxes by x amount for companies or people that meet x qualifications.I have the same problem with arrangements like this. So Carrier threatens to move 1000 jobs out of the country and gets a nice tax benefit to keep those jobs in the US. Next month a small time competitor of Carrier seeks the same tax benefits but since they only have 50 jobs they get told to sod off. Where's the competition in that? I'm fine with giving tax benefits to keep industry jobs in whatever location you want, I'm not fine with with using tax benefits to essentially bribe companies to keep jobs where you want them. |
