Pessimistic scenario about next year if Caldwell is kept

#45

Quote:Good cases have been made for keeping Caldwell in numerous threads.

Making the case to move on from him is as easy as stating "head coach and quarterback."

It could go either way. I personally see Caldwell as a guy that's bright enough to learn from mistakes.  I think a lot of the worst case scenario posts floating  around are a bit ridiculous.

Assuming things like any good coach won't want to come here, OR a new coach will be stuck with Bortles, OR They'll promote a position coach - That's all just blind speculation.

Caldwell - should he still be the GM - could very easily agree to re-address the QB position in order to land the coach he wants.  There's no rule book that states a GM can't move on from a 1st rounder after 3 years.

I think that Caldwell  + a better coaching staff + real competition at QB  = very positive results.
I agree with this. Caldwell has certainly made some blunders as G.M., but has also acquired enough talent to win with a decent coaching staff and quarterback. Khan needs to somehow hire a top coaching candidate like Josh McDaniels or David Shaw. The 2nd priority is to find a reliable quarterback to compete with Bortles. Next year's q.b.'s coming out in the draft are mediocre so he should look to free agency to find his guy. Other top priorities should be to upgrade the offensive line and pass rush. Drafting Garrett or Allen in the 1st will turn an already solid defense into an elite one. The remainder of the off-season will focus on offense. In addition to a q.b., the team needs at least 2 new offensive linemen ( good draft class of interior linemen), a new tight end and another running back, although Ivory and Yeldon should be sufficient with better blocking.

Just like Bradley needing at least 7 wins this year to remain the coach, Caldwell will also need that to remain G.M. after next year.
