Hypothetical

#14

Quote:I'm still of the opinion that we'd be better off trading down. With that said, the Cleveland Browns hold multiple picks in the 1st and 2nd rounds. Suppose they offered us the following deal.....

Cleveland gets #3 overall pick from Jacksonville

Jacksonville gets #9 overall pick from Cleveland, #33 overall pick (1st pick of round 2), #65 overall pick (1st pick of round 3) and Cleveland's 7th round pick. (It works out perfectly on the NFL Trade Value Chart).

With such a deal we could probably land a pass rusher like Derek Barnett or DeMarcus Walker at #9. Possibly a RB like D'Onta Foreman at #33, an OG/C like Pat Elflein or Ethan Pocic at #35, a RT like Taylor Moton or Dion Dawkins at #65 and maybe another pass rushing DT to pair with Malik Jackson, like Jaleel Johnson at pick #67.

To me, that sounds like a great deal for both teams. We get a chance at a huge influx of talent on both lines, the Browns get 2 picks in the top 5 where they could add a QB and an elite defensive player and they still have a mid range 2nd round pick.
This would be a no-brainer in my opinion. So far, Caldwell's track record with high 1st round picks is:

1 success (Ramsay)

1 total bust (joeckel)

2 TBD with Bortles leaning heavily towards bust and Fowler 50-50.

Getting the 1st pick in round 2 could lead to even more picks since the Jaguars would have more time to negotiate a trade for a stud who somehow wasn't selected in round 1. They may even land a 2018 1st rounder for that pick from a q.b. desperate team who has fallen in love with someone like Watson. The Jaguars need several upgrades so the more 2nd and 3rd rounders they get, the better. Offensive line is by far the greatest need and this draft could fix that problem in addition to strengthening other positions like tight end (bye, bye Julius).

Yes, it would be hard to pass on Garrett or Allen, but they'd have to make this deal if it was offerred.
