He did not play in the NFL's worst division. Do you remember how good the Jets, Bills, Patriots, and Dolphins were in 1998 and 1999? Much better than the AFC South is now, obviously, because they all went to the playoffs in the late 1990s. (The Jets were AFC Championship Game losers and we all know what happened to the Dolphins.) Andrew Luck, on the other hoof, is in the NFL's worst division - a division that did not exist before 2002. So their records can't be compared because the schedule format and division alignment changed before Luck was drafted.

 

Another note: Stanford's OC followed him to Indianapolis. To my knowledge, Tennessee's OC did not follow Peyton Manning there. I am sure that makes a difference too.

 

Just because Manning is winning games for Denver now doesn't mean you're obligated to make excuses for him.

 

I think his legacy will stand up just fine regardless of his first two years. Truth is, Luck has done more with less his first two years. It's the rest of the career where Luck will have a hard time keeping up with Peyton.
