Asperger's syndrome, epilepsy, and other disorders

Quote:Like I said before, you don't bother me at all. But I do have a question. It's apparent from this thread that you are fully aware of what your situation is and how your disability affects the way you interpret things and react to them. If that is true, why can't you make a little adjustment and every time you feel like someone is lying, or being mean to you, say to yourself, "No, this is probably my AS causing me to react this way. It's not the other person's fault." And then consider what you're about to say in light of that?

I mean, you have spent 3 pages explaining your situation, so you must be fully aware of what it is and how it affects you. Why can't you take that into consideration when you're using this message board? Are you using your AS as an excuse to make no effort of your own to adjust?

This is a valid question. The simplest answer is an old expression I am sure almost everyone knows: "Old habits die hard." During each suspension I promised myself I will stop attacking other posters and instead report them or add the usernames to my ignore list. That is much easier said than done, unfortunately. The best analogy I can think of is a smoker trying to quit (no I never smoked in my life). I did adjust a little by asking, "Why do you say that?" when a comment seemed to be an obvious lie, such as people calling the FBS school in Columbus Ohio, not Ohio State. Almost every time, nobody answers the question. If posters want me to make an adjustment, they need to answer it.

Quote:I agree with this. Those who do it purposefully are ridiculous.

The problem is many replies from her elicit negative reactions based on how she words things, insists fans do certain things etc.

This is another symptom of AS, which again comes from being too literal. People with AS struggle with what are called negative connotations - for example, "I probably will like it," instead of, "I think I will like it." So people often misinterpret what I am trying to say and think I am making an inappropriate comment that is the opposite of my intent. Once I was nearly expelled from a pet loss chat room for telling someone whose dog died at age 13 he/she should remember the fact it did not die young. Hmmm. My cat was 19.5 when she died and everyone told me that is a good thing, so I can't understand what is wrong with that. Thirteen is old for many dog breeds.

Quote:People shouldn't be mean on purpose, and there are too many here that do it regularly, and not just to JW.

With that said, you can't come here and tell others to be nice to you when you are just as mean to them if not worse to others.  Whether you mean it that way or not, it comes across that way and people are going to take it personally.  Nobody can put themselves in your shoes 100% of the day and at some point they are going to have a personal stance especially when called names.

It's interesting to me that you have such detailed posts at times, but certain things that are told to you over and over about your writing that could help with getting along with people are never changed.

I feel like people are only mean to me now that TMD is banned. Of course I don't want to be a mean person. There are many posts I wish I could delete. That is why you see so many of my posts were completely changed by the time someone quoted them, which probably confuses a lot of people.

What certain things are you referring to?
