I know you'll counter with "but what if he fixes Bortles he'll get to choose anywhere he wants to go to be a HC". That's obviously not the play a big time OC will make, by definition. A big time OC will continue to play it smart and stay on his positive trajectory toward being a HC. The type of OC that would accept the Bortles challenge will be a desperate shoot for the moon type of OC.

 

A big time OC that would be hired here for HC miiiight take that gamble since he will already be getting the big money HC contract, and will have more influence with player acquisition to get his guy to compete with or replace Bortles.

 

I don't think Bortles is the answer. But you're right, Unless we get a proven veteran QB, we'll be hard pressed to get a big-time OC in here that wants to work with Bortles or a new rookie QB. Getting a offensive HC doesn't guarantee a better offense. Gus was supposedly a defensive guru but appeared to not touch the defense until this year when he stated "he would be more involved and possible call plays".
