Sometimes taking a SS pays off in that same spot,  as the Giants are getting very good play from Landon Collins (who they traded up for) this season. Yet, considering how desperate some teams are to trade up to the top of Round 2, a strong case can be made that you have a better chance of getting better overall value when trading down from that spot than when staying there.  

 

I would not trade down in Round 2 without third round compensation. We got Allen Robinson by trading up from Round 3. Picking two WRs in the Round 2 worked out well.

 

If the Giants did not trade up for Landon Collins, would there have been a starter level safety available at their assigned pick number? Apparently they did not think so or believed Collins is very special.
