Also, no one is saying he wasn't comfortable with Gus or disliked him. Everyones argument is he wasn't "his guy" or "his choice". He said just that in his presser. Doesn't mean he didn't like Gus.

 

A lot of people loved Gus as a coordinator, hindsight is 20/20. People in here didn't want Gus to leave Jacksonville because we were worried he'd sign elsewhere and he was a highly touted DC under a great HC.

 

Dave deserves blame for the hire, no doubt about it. He's on the hot seat and out of town if a new coach can get things turned around relatively quickly. Doesn't mean the Khan's and co. didn't have a large hand/sort of forced Gus on Dave instead of who HE wanted.

 

That is my perspective. You can think what you want, that's my personal opinion.

 

That's a lot of words having to be added to what Dave said, to try to explain what Dave said.

 

Nothing in what he said indicated Gus was forced on Dave by anyone.  He indicated he had to make cold calls and they were behind the 8 ball in getting a staff put together, yes.  But there's no indication he was forced on Dave by anyone in the organization.

 

If you want to make the argument there was discomfort in the timing/pace of hiring Gus - yes, I buy that.  But he himself admits being an integral part of the hire, as being joined at the hip with Gus, and makes no indication whatsoever he was overridden or coerced by anyone in the organization into hiring Gus against his will.
