Nothing in what he said indicated Gus was forced on Dave by anyone.  He indicated he had to make cold calls and they were behind the 8 ball in getting a staff put together, yes.  But there's no indication he was forced on Dave by anyone in the organization.

 

If you want to make the argument there was discomfort in the timing/pace of hiring Gus - yes, I buy that.  But he himself admits being an integral part of the hire, as being joined at the hip with Gus, and makes no indication whatsoever he was overridden or coerced by anyone in the organization into hiring Gus against his will.

Agreed. 

 

People are overthinking things, though its to be expected in a miserable season where the coach was fired. Dave hired Gus, Dave drafted Bortles. Both were his guys. I am a big Caldwell guy, but hes just as responsible for this as Gus. Khan didnt force anything onto Dave, in fact, in my opinion, Khan didnt get involved in the football operations at all till the very end. Khan should of been more involved and maybe this season would not of been so disastrous. 

 

Gus was hired by Dave Caldwell. Dave Caldwell is in the last year of his deal, he has 1 year to hire a coach that can turn this around quickly or hes gone as well.
