Greg Jones was done and the team wasn't running a scheme that fit his deteriorating talents.

 

Getting anything for Monroe was a good deal because he wasn't a zone blocking tackle and Gus/Dead Fish were insistent on the scheme.

 

Knighton wasn't particularly good, had weight control problems and wanted to play somewhere else.

 

That's the commentary on every free agent or potential free agent, you just can't force guys to sign here.

 

I agree on all points but Smith.

 

 We had a revolving door of either injured or underwhelming OLBs for three years after Smith left and Caldwell could have made a reasonable offer to bring him back but didn't.  Dave admitted regretting that decision prior to the 2015 draft in a "radio row" interview in Indy. 

 

To add to the Knighton point:  He really wasn't doing much in his final year in Jax - looked good for a hot minute in Denver but faded quickly there as well.

Not sure why folks regret losing that pattern of minor motivation followed by laziness and weight gain. The DT situation got better in Jax after he left with Miller and Marks.
