Not really. If I am an owner, and I hired you to be a General Manager to make these decisions, and I am now going outside of you to help you out. In my eyes, you've failed me for the past four years. It's not uncommon in business to see someone get fired just after a move like this has been made. 

 

But the word "assist" is just a friendly PC word people like to throw around in business when in a reality it's just another way of saying "Hey, you've sucked at this for the past four years and I am here to essentially do your job for you for a small price". This guy Khan is hiring isn't into being a full time general manager, he's just apparently more right than wrong when it comes to finding and assigning talent to other teams. 

 

Caldwell is out of the picture after 2017 if this team fails to produce a winning record or at least break even at 8 - 8. Mark it down.
