Regarding Brandon Pettigrew,  despite his stats not being close to stellar in 2013,  I'm of the opinion that he had his best season this year.  In the past and even early this season,  Pettigrew was very inconsistent in catching and holding on to the ball.  Fumbles were problematic.   From the 4th game on this season,  Pettigrew was the Lions most consistent player at the skill positions.  He hardly dropped any passes from that point forward and protected the ball once he caught it.   As a blocker,  both in-line and on the move,  Pettigrew was an asset.   He was greatly missed in last Sunday's OT debacle against the Giants.  

 

The question with Pettigrew is did the light come on in his 5th season or did he become more focused in his contract season???

 

The Lions very likely will have a coaching change.   It's hard to predict what the new HC and Offensive Coordinator will want out of the TE position.   Also,  unlike the Jaguars,  the Lions aren't in a favorable salary cap situation.   That's an understatement.   I want Pettigrew to be back with the team in 2014 but at this point in time it's impossible to predict what's going to transpire.

 

Because the Jaguars have a ton of cap space,  they have plenty of leverage in securing the TE position in 2014.   If Pettigrew hits the open market and by chance the Jaguars and Marcedes Lewis aren't on the same page,  it wouldn't surprise me if the Jaguars went after Pettigrew.  Especially since Jaguars Offensive Line Coach George Yarno saw Pettigrew in practice and games for 4 seasons.  Knowing that while the player was inconsistent at the time,  the all around skills were there.  

 

A related sidenote.  Don't be surprised if the Jaguars go after Lions T Jason Fox in free agency.   He won't cost much and when healthy has shown promise.   Yarno's input on Fox will certainly be asked by Dave Caldwell and Gus Bradley.
