A gun acts as both a deterrent and an opportunity for the staff to stop or slow-down a potential shooter. As opposed to now, where you literally can't do anything but hide or be killed.

 

Correct, you can't stop a bomb, though that is an entirely different subject considering bombs are banned for public use already, everywhere. You also can't stop a student from hijacking a truck and crashing it into a populated part of the school.
