Hackett Named Offensive Coordinator
|
Quote:The team as a whole played like trash because they were unprepared by Bradley, not because Olsen offense. Marrone as HC and Olsen offense and you don't think the offense would have done decent in the last two games? Believe me, more than anything I wanted Olsen gone. Those two teams absolutely suck on defense. Using fan votes to run plays from the stands could have worked against them. Hackett shouldn't be praised as some sort of God like most of you guys are doing based on two games. I'll reserve my opinion on him when he actually goes up against a top defense, then we will know what he is all about. You're conflating two separate arguments. The Jags offense, especially the running game, was much better under Hackett. That's true of the games under Gus as well as the last two games. The last two games only show what a hindrance Gus was to the overall performance of the team, something with which you seem to agree. Bortles looked better the lat two games than he did in the previous 14, even just looking at the two games against the same teams. His delivery was sharper and he seemed to scan the field better. Bortles stated that he worked on his footwork those last two weeks. Was Gus the reason he didn't do that earlier in the season? Maybe. I'm not as down on Bortles as most people here. I still remember he shattered the team TD passing record in 2015. Brunell, with Smith and McCardell as targets, never had more than 20 TD passes in a season. If the problem is mechanics then I'm optimistic that spending the offseason with Tom House will get Bortles back to the 2015 level. In any case there are no better options at QB this coming year unless Allen suddenly gets a lot better. Glennon, Hoyer, Taylor, Fitzpatrick et al. aren't significantly better than the 2016 version of Bortles. Like I said before, we'll know for sure by next November. "Why should I give information to you when all you want to do is find something wrong with it?" |
