This was discovered as the lock on our back sliding glass door was jammed this morning. Some items which were left on the table on our back porch were taken and the lock on the gate to our backyard was busted.


Apparently they tried to lift the sliding glass door over the lock and it got stuck. The cops think it was teenagers as there have been other incidents in the neighborhood here and there where unlocked cars have been burglarized. It takes huge cojones or incredible stupidity to break into someone's house when the driveway indicates people are home.


I have dogs, but they were sleeping in my bedroom on the opposite side of the house and did not hear anything. Obviously nobody wants this to happen and I'm grateful to not have a cheap sliding door on my home. My concern is not stuff being taken. My concern is my family feeling violated or terrorized.


Replacing the lock on my backyard gate and looking into a motion detector with flood light and camera.


What other deterrents have you guys found to be effective which I can look into.

You could always take the approach of the former president and apologize to the burglars for you having things that they do not. You should bow down to them and explain to them that the day will come when everyone can have everyone else's things. Don't forget to remind the intruders that it is not their nor your fault that this situation exists. If the greedy CEOs of large corporations and banks weren't keeping "the man down" then none of this would be happening.

 

I think this is your best course of action. It has worked flawlessly for the past 8 years, so don't try to change things up now. It's not in your best interest.
