Former Jaguars LB Coach Robert Saleh reportedly will be named 49ers DC

Quote:Mike Mayock said he would be "scared to death" of picking a QB in the top 10. All draft analysts seem to agree no QB should go that high. The 49ers could reach for need, but they know something about their neighbors in Oakland.

All analysts but one once agreed that the Earth was the center of the universe.  That's an extreme example, but we see it every year in the lead up to the draft that analysts' big boards rarely reflect reality when the actual draft occurs.  Teams' GMs and scouts don't rely on TV talking heads to help construct their own big boards.  Quite frankly, one or more QBs going in the top 10 wouldn't be all that surprising to me.  If a team drafting high likes a particular QB, they can't really bet on them being there for them in round 2 which means they'd either have to trade down and hope to get their guy or trade up into the bottom of the 1st round and hope he's still there.  Either approach still relies on hope and luck.  If they like him enough, they should just take him when they have the chance to.

Cleveland has more leeway since they have a 2nd first round pick.  Though if they like a guy, they'd have to expect the 9ers or another QB needy team to take him if they pass at 1 and try to wait to get him later in the round.  If Cleveland passes and the 9ers don't take a QB at 2 either, that should be all anyone needs to know about the QBs in this draft.  New GM, New Head Coach and they pass on a new QB at 2?  It's possible, but I wouldn't bet on that happening especially if Cleveland doesn't go QB at 1 overall.

Also, how long is Hue Jackson going to wait to get his QB in Cleveland?  He's got to be thinking he needs to get his guy sooner rather than later.  Maybe they believe in RG3, but again, I wouldn't bet on that.
