This wasn't directed at me, but Favre was well within his prime at the time of the Brunell trade.  They already had a starter in place, he was young, and Brunell wasn't going to unseat him.

 

Regarding Hasselbeck, IIRC, Favre was still there, and they just drafted Aaron Rodgers.

 

With New England, they have a 37 or so year old Brady, with nobody behind him except Mallet.  If he can play, he'd be more valuable to New England than either Brunell or Hasselbeck were to the Packers at the time.
