McShay's new mock draft: OJ Howard at #4 (merged threads)

#33

I'd love to finally have a prominent TE on the team.  But he'd have to be a hall of fame once in a decade type of player to warrant taking a TE as a top 5 pick.  He could be a bust even if he's a good tight end.  I know it's more than production, but TEs just don't make a big enough impact on the team in general.

Top 10 receiving TEs for 2016:

RK  PLAYER                  TEAM    REC TAR YDS      AVG    TD  LONG    20+ YDS/G   FUM YAC 1DN

12  Travis Kelce, TE        KC      85  117 1,125   13.2    4   80      14  70.3    0   655 55

16  Greg Olsen, TE          CAR     80  127 1,073   13.4    3   78      14  67.1    0   367 54

33  Jimmy Graham, TE        SEA     65  95  923     14.2    6   42      10  57.7    2   337 45

43  Kyle Rudolph, TE        MIN     83  132 840     10.1    7   44      11  52.5    0   318 50

46  Zach Ertz, TE           PHI     78  106 816     10.5    4   30      9   58.3    0   205 42

49  Delanie Walker, TE      TEN     65  102 800     12.3    7   47      13  53.3    1   270 35

55  Dennis Pitta, TE        BAL     86  119 729      8.5    2   30      4   45.6    1   264 37

57  Eric Ebron, TE          DET     61  86  711     11.7    1   61      9   54.7    0   243 37

58  Martellus Bennett, TE   NE      55  73  701     12.7    7   58      10  43.8    0   406 31

59  Jordan Reed, TE         WSH     66  87  686     10.4    6   33      9   57.2    1   247 4

Even if he got Kelce numbers, it's still probably a questionable pick considering where the top 10 have actually been drafted:

Kelce (3rd round), Olson (1st round #31), Graham (3rd round), Rudolf (2nd round), Ertz (2nd round), Walker (6th round), Pitta (4th round), Ebron (round 1 #10), Bennet (2nd round), Reed (3rd round).

It's not very efficient drafting even if he's a good TE.  He could even be the top TE a particular year and it's still a bit questionable.
