The Jaguars have sucked because they were a mediocre team with epically poor coaching, not because the offense couldn't average a few more seconds of possession per game.

 

This is an example of looking at a stat and drawing conclusions based on the face value of that stat without looking further into it.  Your general point is valid, but it doesn't look at the situations where a defense just successfully played a series and forced a punt only to have the offense hold the ball for a short period of time and turn it over deep in their own territory forcing the defense back out there quickly and in a poor situation.  That wears a defense out.  Despite that, the defense was better at holding teams to field goals this past year than they were the year before.  But the deeper implication here is that we've done that way too much and more than any other team since Blake has been here.
