The problem with "just get better every day" is that not every single person is motivated by the same thing. 

 

If you put Tony Boselli as a rookie in the same locker room as Gus, you don't think he'd still be dominant? The guy was ultra competitive. I mean, Jalen was in the same locker room. Did he have a problem? 

 

For guys like Tony and Jalen who are self-motivated, it works because they are going to push themselves...win or lose.

 

But then you have guys like Julius, or what about someone like Hugh Douglas who went here to cash in? Their motivation wasn't being their best, their motivation was to collect the paycheck.

 

So to have this mantra work, you also need a leader who will hold people accountable. Factor in the bad talent pool of the team (we can't get rid of guys because we didn't have players to replace them with) and its a snow storm.

 

As I've said...go back to TC's press conference. While he talks about "winning lunch" and it became the buzz word of the press conference, the one story he felt compelled to talk about was the musician (cielo? violin? i can't remember) who was regarded as the best in his profession and even at age 80 or 90+ works hard on his craft every day.

 

Someone who is only concerned about "winning" would stop practicing because he's already "won".

 

But he keeps working to push himself because if he doesn't get better, he might as well be dead (this quote is also used by Bruce Lee btw).

 

So for all the talk about TC's "win lunch", at his core he still preaches getting better every day and competing not against other people, but against yourself...two philosophies that are very much similar to Bradley's.
