The factions have been fighting for a long time, but were somewhat stable for a period of time.


Now the war has been taken to other lands (notable those where it has not and why,) and the vacuums created have caused more instability in leadership in those lands. Our inept policy in the region has failed and has made things worse, not better for everyone - for those there and elsewhere.


There again we were thinking with our wallets and we did not even remotely understand them. They are an enemy in which the US had no experience. The US is awesome at fighting armies.
