Jags Will Win 10-12 Games This Year
|
Quote:No because the running game will not bail us out of 2 tds plus down. At the end of the day does not matter if the qb throws 650 times or 100 times. If he is not there mentally wont matter. Take out the fantasy stats. When he throws less and the offense rushes more he has won a whopping 4 games. Even if ya double that. Still not 10.There are exceptions... but as a general rule, the running game won't take you to a championship in the modern game. We're emphasizing our running game to try to compensate for our weakness in our passing game. That weakness has been Blake Bortles and a sub-par offensive line. While Gus Bradley was indeed a part of our past woes, he wasn't the whole problem; our quarterbacks sub-professional performance has also been a major slice of the issue. We had a very bad defense as well, but that has largely been addressed and isn't the main issue now. Our receivers have had their issues with drops, but overall they are very good. Blake had his 'good season' in 2015 when teams were still not really worrying too much about the 'Allens'. They quickly learned that lesson and in 2016 the Allens weren't so much of a factor any more... and suddenly Blake didn't look too good. Last season was Blakes third year... the one where most winning pro quarterbacks start to ratchet up their performance; not so Blake, he instead went the opposite direction. It wasn't entirely his fault; his former HC was epically bad, his o-line left a lot to be desired too, so much so that we lacked a balanced offense. Combine that with a quarterback who is still, at the pro level, struggling with throwing a spiral, with accuracy, and with poor field vision and decision making and you get what we saw in 2017. I've no doubt that if this years draft had featured some really good quarterback prospects that the Jags would've been all over it and Blake would become the backup; but that wasn't the case. TC did the next best thing as a temporary plug for our majorly leaking dam; try to strengthen our o-line and get a workhorse running back to lean on to take the emphasis off our passing game. We didn't really get 'more fit' on offense... we just limited the hemorrhaging that is Blake Bortles. No wonder Vegas' has us at no better than winning 5-6 games this season.... So Gus Bradley proved to be a major bust as the HC here, and unless the miraculous happens here this season Bortles (inspite of the 5th year ext) could/should be history here next season. No wonder Shad brought in TC cause Dave's top guys are both busts! We'll see how it goes, but I ain't holding my breath for anything much better than 5-6 wins this season. Go Jags. |
