Draft Strategy

Quote:IN 2013 He drafted Joeckle over Fluker... That was an "i'm feeling lucky today" swing and a miss.

IN 2014 He drafted Bortles over Khalil Mack, Kelvin Benjamin and Derek Carr... Another blunder imo

IN 2015 He drafted Fowler over Beasley... Beasley is producing and Fowler is still in limbo.

IN 2016 He drafted Ramsey.... he's solid.

I guess if you only want to hit on 25% of your 1st rounders... he's your guy.
1.  In 2013, Joeckel was thought to be the top overall pick most of that draft season and was generally seen as a better overall prospect than Fluker.  Considering both turned out to be disappointments, I don't see your point in raising this argument.

2.  In 2014 the team needed a franchise QB.  He chose the franchise QB over Mack.  The Raiders got lucky Carr was there in the 2nd round.  If they needed a franchise QB, thought Carr was a franchise QB beyond a shadow of a doubt, and still chose Mack over him, and were willing to wait to the second round to take a guy they thought was a franchise QB, they were silly to take such a risk.  As for Benjamin, that 2014 draft was very deep at WR.  After that draft, the Jaguars wound up with Allen Robinson, Marqise Lee, and Allen Hurns.  There is no sensible rationale for faulting the Jaguars for what they accomplished at that position in 2014.

3.  Fowler's first year playing was similar in production to Beasley's first year.

But the argument that somehow missing on first round picks (and the jury is out on both Bortles and Fowler) reflects a "passive attitude" indicating mid round picks are more important than first round picks is not grounded in fact and patently silly.

A team can miss on a first round pick and still think the pick is more important than later picks.

Worst to 1st.  Curse Reversed!
