Very different. People wanted Tebow cause he was a Jacksonville kid. It didn't matter how he played, stupid people wanted him regardless. And so you could show these people his bad throwing motion, his actual stats, etc, and they didn't care.

 

Manziel's different. He's got no connection to Jacksonville, other than that he's one of the best QBs in the draft this year; most NFL scouts are saying he's a top 2 QB prospect. We want him because of his play and on-field antics, not his hometown or history here in Jax.

 

And IMO, you really shouldn't disparage the excitement on the boards, it's been a long time since Jaguars have had this. You should have seen it in Indy, Washington, and Carolina the months before they picked their franchise guy too, over the last few years. I guarantee all their forum posts were all about evaluating Newton, and arguing who's a better pick "pro-style Luck or dual-threat RG3". 

The excitement and the question is the same OP. It's just now that instead of "pro-style Luck or dual-threat RG3", it's "pro-style Bridgewater or dual-threat Manziel". 

Try to enjoy this time, and I mean that sincerely, it's been a long time coming for us Jaguars.
