Cleveland matches Jags offer for Mack

Quote:I'm over it, they got him, whatever.

Isn't the first time the Jags have disappointed me, and it most certainly won't be the last...

I just hope its not Stork.

When FA opened, you said you would laud the team for making a play at Mack.

Now they've disappointed you because they didn't get him.

I'm thinking this isn't the Jags' fault...

I gave them credit for targeting the right guy.

To act like its not disappointing to miss out on the player tells me that some of you are zombie-like fans or are content no matter what.

Popsicle!

Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Whereas you get what you want with the team targeting the player and putting an offer together that makes him the highest paid player at his position, and you complain about it because that's what Eagles fans do.

Of course it's disappointing to not get the player, but that doesn't make me disappointed in the TEAM.

I found this article today on the NFP that discusses things the Jacksonville Front Office could have done to make the Cleveland match that much more difficult:

<p style="margin-left:40px;">"...If Mack was really looking to get out of Cleveland as soon as possible, the offer sheet should have contained a fully guaranteed 2014 salary equal to his $10.039 million transition tag that he could void at his discretion before the start of the 2015 league year. This would have ensured that Mack would have become an unrestricted free agent when free agency began next year.
(1)

His actual voidable provision after the 2015 season operates in this manner. Another alternative for Mack would have been to get a clause that prohibited the Browns from using a franchise or transition designation on him in 2015 for signing his transition tag tender.
(2)

<p style="margin-left:40px;">Outside of these concepts, there wasn’t much Jacksonville could have done to make it difficult for Cleveland to keep Mack for the short term. Even though Jacksonville wasn’t successful with Mack, the fan base will likely be pleased at the team’s aggressive efforts to upgrade the roster.
.."

<p style="margin-left:40px;">

1 - I don't know that any Front Office would do this. Sign a guy to a one year fully guaranteed deal that he can walk away from at his discretion? If you were that agent or player why wouldn't you void that contract?!?! Then you go into Unrestricted Free Agency and demand an even richer contract. I get that it would have made it more difficult to match, but I'm not sure I would want that provision in a contract for a guy that I am depending on being a building block for the future.

2 - Doesn't this provision exist? I thought that after Year Two, the Tag could not be applied due to the language of the contract.

I'm trying to make myself more informed and less opinionated.

Stop saying whatever stupid thing you're talking about and pay attention to all the interesting things I have to say!

Well, now you know the angle a certain poster is going to take.  I notice he's ditched the extra million or two nonsense.

Please show us evidence of the last sentence.

Sorry, apparently you're still clinging to it, in which case, you're dumber than I thought.  I figured you'd had a stroke of smarts hit you so you dropped it.  Since you're offended by such insinuation, clearly you haven't stumbled into intelligence.

Carry on.

Oh, so in essence, I just caught you in a lie. Up there you falsely claimed something, I challenged you on it, then you folded. I wonder how many other times you also try this tactic that goes unchallenged and your word is accepted as gospel.... :whistling:

Caught me in a lie?  Really?  Because I hadn't seen you post lately that you figured an extra million or two would do the trick?  I hate to break it to you, but when it comes to obsessing over what people post, you're way down on my list of interesting posters.  I tend to gravitate toward people who have an IQ that exceeds their shoe size.  So, I don't read every post you make.

I just assumed because I hadn't seen anything lately that you'd accidentally swerved into an intelligent position.  That was my mistake.  Unfortunately, you've now confirmed that my assumption was incorrect.

The funny thing here is you think it was a tactic, while I was actually trying to give you the benefit of the doubt.  Sadly, you're not bright enough to let it go and maybe save a little face.  I guess there's something to be said for taking pride in your ignorance.  At least you're good at something, even if it's being a doofus.

it's a merged thread, there's probably 10 different threads merged into this one. That's why it seems SO big.

Much like a novel, this 103 page historic saga has many chapters.. It's actually worth the read..
