Have you noticed the democrats have been slapped down by the Trump nominees when they go for the gotcha? It appears neither them or their their ghostwriters have no idea how to deal with competent people without getting owned. Actually this whole process seems to be un needed. 

Step one -The candidates make themselves available to all of the congress for meetings. 
Step two - We then have the committee ask questions in a circus like atmosphere.  The minority party (no matter who it is) just uses it to try to gotcha the candidate.

Do we really need step two? Just vote.
A new broom always sweeps clean.
