Drifter's big gun topic

Quote:As far as the classes being voluntary...duh so is firearm ownership.

Yeah, but you responded to another post in which the author stated his opinion that more intensive training should be required to own and carry a firearm.

Required, not voluntary.

I only have a pistole and a shotgun. If the zombie apocalypse ever occurs I will use my meager weaponry and super secret ninja navy seal training learned from playing video games to acquire better weaponry.

Handguns are made for killing

They ain't no good for nothing else

And if you like to drink your whiskey

You might even shoot yourself

So why don't we dump them people

to the bottom of the sea

Before some fool come around here

wanna shoot either you or me

I think the funniest part of this whole thread is that the first page is loaded with people spouting off from the keyboard without even READING what happened. "They were shot in the back" "Nothing can justify taking a life" Blah.

I carry every day. I also pray every time I see my weapons that I never have to use them for their intended purpose. If I ever have to it will be justified. I wouldn't enjoy killing another person. I hunt, I kill large animals, every time I do, I feel a little sick but, it's part of life. I'm thankful for the meat that will be provided by that animal.

I wish all the anti-gun people had to wear a uniform. That way the criminals would know who to rob, they wouldn't get shot, and I wouldn't help someone wearing that uni.

That being said, I personally wouldn't have stopped them. I'm not a cop. If I walked in and they had their guns drawn, different story but, them leaving the store and I'm outside. Not my problem, I'll take the license plate of the get away car.

Or 2005. Stats are still alarming though.

My 9 year old today told me that our neighbors' daughter, a sohpmore at UNF, is helping coach basketball at Ribault High. I was like "Ribault!? Really!?, I'm surprised her Dad lets her drive there..."  My Kid is like "What's wrong with Ribault?" Again..he's 9. I said "It's in the HOOD"... he asked what they called our neighborhood...I really didn't know.... He said "Probably where the nerds are!" lol he cracks me up sometimes.

Oh I know, I was just surprised that THIS girl was going over there. And that her overly protective family is allowing it.

Is it that bad now? I used to drive Moncrief Rd and in the neighborhoods around the school about 10 years ago and didn't feel unsafe. Maybe she and her family checked it out before she agreed to coach there.

Psh, "the hood" -- more often that not, completely overrated; unless dirt weed and poverty intimidate you.  It's the areas of town where psychotic, sleep deprived tweakers congregate that you need watch out for.  You all look like narcotic agents to us.

I jest.

I think race is a fair question. I am not sure if it's a valid one though.

I know what the statistics say, but is there a correlation between race and upbringing?

One part of me wants to say that yes there is. Another part of me wants to discount it. And here's why. Yes, Blacks seem to fit the correlation between crime and the ratio of traditional family upbringing. However, Hispanics and Asians do not, which seem to go against my theory.

I really don't know why it is the way it is.

I guess there are probably more factors involved that most people don't even consider. I will be the first person to say that you can never really tell who a person is, especially at face value. That is expressely why I do stay armed. It's something I hope I have and never need. I hope it's never something I need and don't have.

Really that simple for me.

I did some very superficial Google research, so take the following for what it's worth, but 2 factors that seem to increase violent crime numbers among any demographic group statistics and overwhelm all others are poverty and stable home/family situations. That is almost so obvious it may be overlooked at times.
