Andre Branch: Double digit sacks

Quote:Everything I've said about Branch has been true, he's not good and running against air to a QB is not impressive. So no, nothing like that Smile

Why have you ignored all of the posts that show your incorrect use of games-played? That is, after all, the basis of your entire argument and its wrong.

I don't have much hope in Andre Branch progression at LEO. I very rarely have seen him beat a guy on the edge as a Leo in our scheme should.

He produced some sacks but very few pressures and I don't think that is sustainable.

A poster mentioned that offenses would adapt to so many stunts, I think offenses did as he was shutdown once he got his single sack per game. That's like a receiver getting a big first down or even a touchdown and then disappearing for the rest of the game.

Kudos to the coaching staff for getting the most out of him creatively but I believe the defense works much better when the Leo is a consistent threat from the edge. I believe Branch is too stiff to do that.

Maybe he can fit better at OTTO where he will be more in space and take advantage of his athleticism. He won't need to stunt as he will be a linebacker and he will blitz from a variety of spots and angles without abandoning the edge like he was at LEO. I would like to see that.

By the way, sack numbers is still a garbage statistic : https://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/20...ated-sack/

thanks for sharing that link. Certainly an interesting perspective. I'd like to see QB hits, rushes broken down by it's effect on the QB etc.. Good points though.

Everything you said has been true except for the things you said that weren't true

Conveniently, the things that were proven and acknowledged to be wrong fell on the side of understating a Branch's production.

That's just a coincidence.......so much for objectivity there.

I just don't understand Swag's fixation on this one player. Good young player too. How long has it been since the Jags had a good, young DE prospect that was on the verge of 10 QB sacks (upon development) Harvey and Groves never got there....

It was probably McCray....

Brackens before that.

And thats it.

I think you are right on in this post... Branch has developed under this coaching staff and maybe he will continue to grow and develop... I also think that McCray would have been a real good fit for the LEO position that Bradley runs...

Sad part about your post that it really reminds me how long it's been since the Jags have had a DE that could produce like Brackens could...

Quote:Oh and for those new to this thread, Mincey sucks too. But people here actually think 7 sacks in 2 years over 29 games is productive Laughing

I think people realize that he struggled in his rookie season. A lot of DE's have. It isn't necessarily what he did his first year, it is how he improved from year one to year two and now year two to year three. Also, it wasn't just the numbers he improved on. He improved in the coaches eyes as well. I think most people understand that year one isn't a huge barometer either way on a players entire career. He improved last year plain and simple. We will see if he takes another step this year.

Most DE's struggle to put up numbers their rookie years. Thats what he's ignoring, either purposely or blindly.

I don't know if he's ignoring it or just doesn't understand it... almost any young player will struggle if they have to learn a new system, not to mention, two new systems in two years... this will be Branches second year in the same defensive system...something he's not had...he showed improvement at the end of last year and if it carries over... double digit sacks is not out of the question for him...

I actually think that Harvey and Groves wouldnt' have been AS supreme busts had Bradley's coaching staff developed them from day 1.

Jack & staff were horrid in player development for the most part, despite the McCray example.

Not claiming Bradley would have elevated Harvey to a star or anything....but a serviceable cog? Yep.

JDR & staff couldn't develop a polaroid photo...

Didn't know that. After a quick google he had 2 sacks and a FF last year in 5 games.

Hmm.  That didn't look like air he was going up against.

Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Not air...but a back.

I see many of his sacks and pressures come from stunts where he loops inside.

Not that there is anything wrong with that.  Aaron Kampman excelled on stunts.

But he needs a bigger array of moves.

On the other hand, I think the team will play with more leads this year.  That should give him more opportunities.
