There were better options than Fowler but they all dried up the moment the titans took a page out of Caldwells book and hoodwinked everyone by taking Marcus (Huge mistake for them starting him Day 1 btw). So Circumstances given, A on that.

 

Yeldon, Not a fan but I dont mind the idea of rolling the dice on a RB in the second round. The rest of the picks were value-central. I really want to know what happened to Bennet. Too good to be true.

 

As far as the Undrafted's go, I think we got a real sleeper in Nick Marshal. I really do hope the Jags put some serious time into him.

Lol, no I just wrote some scouting reports for a few blogs for the 2012 and 2013 drafts. Too lazy of a writer, and not enough money to really make it a job so it didn't last too long.

They just asked Charlie Casserly who his favorite pick in the 2nd round was and he said Yeldon. Said he has a late 1st early 2nd on him and he fits perfect with the Jags. Hmmmm

I did a dozen paid player profile scouting reports for Cincy Jungle SB Nation blog w/ Mr. Goodberry, and then I did a handful of guest mock drafts for other SB Nation NFL blogs.

I gave it an overall A. My favorite pick was Yeldon. I'm not sure about Fowler, but I have faith in Gus as a developer of defensive talent. This gives us two great draft classes in a row. Hopefully, we aren't picking top ten next year.

I really give them an A on Fowler, Cann, Sample, Greene, and Bennett. Give them a B on Koyack and Yeldon and a C on Sterling (I doubt he willbe with the team start of the season). Overall it is a very good draft for this team and give it an A- overall.

I don't like grading two days after draft is over (I think it takes at least two years before we can give a fair grade), so I won't do it, but overall I really like your draft. You drafted two players I was hoping we'd get - A.J. Cann and Michael Bennett (I can't believe he was there until 6th round; it would be great to have two MB's on the same D-Line). We passed on both, so they probably weren't graded that high by JS&PC, but I think they will both be great players. I also like James Sample. He was at UW for two season before transferring out. He didn't get much playing time but I always believe he had potential. 

 

I see you didn't address LB position. What are your thoughts about that? Nothing against T.J. Yeldon, who can be a good RB, but I was really expecting you would take a guy like Eric Kendricks or Denzel Perryman in the 2nd round.

Fowler is an A plus. Perfect fit.

 

Yeldon was graded higher by scouts than the internet community had him rated. He was a first round grade by our staff so A plus.

 

Cann was a 2nd round grade taken in the 3rd so A plus yet again.

 

Sample is a good pick up. B plus.

 

Greene could be our starter at slot WR year 1. A

 

Bennett, once healthy, could be the future at DT if Marks goesafter his contract expires. A

 

Sterling is a great project to take on. B plus

 

Koyack should see playing time. B plus.

 

 

This is our best draft of the Caldwell era.

1. Dante Fowler Jr. - I was hoping for Cooper as he was the highest rated player in my mind (Williams' injury dropped him), but I get their reasoning too. DE was a much bigger need by far and Fowler was rated pretty close by them. I thought he was a top 5 prospect so I am good with this pick. Grade: <b>B+</b>


2. TJ Yeldon - One could argue that he may have been there in the 3rd, but there's obviously no way of knowing. Regardless, this was one of our bigger needs and he has the talent to be an efficient 3-down back. I like this pick and he was one of the RBs I wanted. With Ajayi's knee, it narrowed it down even more. Grade: <b>B+</b>


3. AJ Cann - Great value here. Most people had him as the second best interior lineman in the draft (assuming Scherff is a tackle). While Linder was by far our best offensive player last year, and Beadles actually did OK, Cann has a shot to push Beadles out of a job, and gives us good depth at a position we were lacking in. Or he may even just move to center. Grade: <b>A+</b>


4. James Sample - I actually didn't watch anything on him prior to the draft as there were so many flyer FS prospects, but this guy seems to be very versatile and love his coverage ability. He can play FS and SS, but probably would be our starting FS. The fact we are getting a starter and such a versatile player here is great. Grade: <b>A</b>


5. Rashad Greene - We needed a slot WR and a PR, and you can't really go wrong with this pick at all, especially considering the round. Dude was extremely productive at FSU, runs great routes, good hands, etc. Another value pick that fit a need also. Grade: <b>A-</b>


6. Michael Bennett - Probably my favorite pick of the draft. This guy was routinely going in mocks around the 2nd round since he's probably the best interior rushing lineman in the draft (yes, better than Leonard). How he fell there is a combination of scheme and an injury he had (that should recover just fine). While he's strictly a 3/4 tech that rushes the passer, he excels at it and should became a great niche player on our defense as he fits perfectly. Grade: <b>A+</b>


7. Neal Sterling and Ben Koyack - Both guys seem to be competing for our backup TE spot behind Lewis and Julius. I love the value here for both and love how Caldwell brings in competition like this. Grade: <b>B+</b>


Overall Grade: <b>A</b>


Honestly, probably one of the better Jags draft in our franchise history. Needs met value almost the whole way through and the value we got in rounds 3-7 was ridiculous. I'm stoked.
