Is that the plan?

Or is Cyp now on notice?

Obviously feel like that's a great pick by Jacksonville. Feel like Sample is a longtime quality starter in the league. Gave him 2nd RD grade

Cyp may ride the bench if he doesn't improve significantly over the last 2 years. Nice competition, it appears.

Jaguars fourth round draft pick James Sample was graded by @PFF as the best coverage safety in the NCAA last season. Go Jags!

But he doesn't pass the name test. Bust.
IT WAS ALWAYS THE JAGS

Saftey and LB were the two positions which needed some competition added. Hopefully this dude can play some FS too.

We can't afford to be drafting back ups.
its the 4th freaking round, you cant expect to be getting guaranteed starters, you get the best players, I bet Seahawks fans hated Kam Chancellor pick in the 5th too

He was probably my 3rd favorite Safety left with the ability to play FS. I know Sample was listed at SS but I think he has the range to play either spot.

Can we edit the stupid thread title?

Why on earth do you guys think he's a SS? Yeah he played there in college but his coverage skills are apparently good enough to make the switch.

PICK ANALYSIS:

Sample is a great fit for Gus Bradley's Cover 3 defense. He's a physical box presence with excellent high to low explosiveness. A JUCO transfer who has just 1 year as a full time starter has a high ceiling in this defense.

Gus has said the he wants his safeties to be interchangeable. He wants both guys to be able to play high or in the box. If what people are saying is true, Sample fits that mold.

Free safety ability with a strong safety tenacity... seems like a chance that he may be competing at both spots?

If he's intended to compete at FS (and it certainly seems he is) then I love the pick.

James Sample | JAC

(May 2, 2015 12:24 PM EDT)

Jaguars selected Louisville S James Sample with the No. 104 overall pick in the 2015 NFL draft.

Sample (6'2/209) transferred from the University of Washington to a California JUCO before landing at UL, where he became the Cardinals' leading tackler as a senior and intercepted four passes. Although overshadowed by Gerod Holliman in the same secondary, Sample is the superior pro prospect as a quick-twitch mover and tough tackler with plus athleticism, running 4.56 at the Combine with a 10-foot-3 broad jump. Sample best projects as a half-field safety who won't necessarily focus on center field or the box. He should be able to perform both tasks adequately.
