He's a gus guy personality wise. I think if Fowler is the pick that will play a big part of that.

Yeah, I can see that being the case.

If Gus creates a defense revolving around Fowler's strengths, there could be some success there.

I just worry that he's not athletic enough to take at #3 overall.

As Josh Norris just said, It's ok to be an average athlete. Granted he said Beasley should be the pick over Fowler, but it wouldn't be the end of the world like Ray, RB, or OL would be.

His face lights up when he starts talking about the Jags. This is going to be a tough call for Caldwell. You are splitting hairs over what you consider the most desirable traits for what they are particularly looking for talent wise. ...but I am getting on that Fowler train. Loving that hometown spirit!

Jags probably sent out a couple of hints to him that they like him and his style of play. Im guessing its all a smokescreen, they will end up surprising everyone with their pick. Im guessing Cooper, White, Beasley, or Williams. Those guys are all options at 3 and with a trade back 1 or 2 of them might still be there if not I see them taking Shelton with a trade down, he would be a very safe pick.

I d rather him be stunned than us miss out on another elite pass rusher...

And I don't think he is it.

In the end we have to surround ourselves with potential gamebreakers if given the opportunity at least at a few positions...

We don't have one on the roster,, and en elite pass rusher is an example of a game breaker...

We don't need a roster full of Gus guys,, even if they are good football players, if they don't mesh well with what we need...

Fowler reminds me of the Clay Mathews pick in 2009. He was an outside 4-3 linebacker and got drafted to a 3-4 team in Green Bay. He was always seen as a tackler and a coverage guy with decent pass rush. Then he was placed in a scheme to rush the qb 99% of the time and you have the monster we see today. I'm fine with Beasley, Fowler, White, Cooper or Williams. I think all of them will have an impact on this team and in the league.

I just don't get all the love for Beasley. I think it would be similar to drafting Quentin Groves to play DE. Groves should have always been Olb and I think it'll be mistake to draft Beasley at 3. I agree with Mike Mayock that Dante Fowler and Leonard Williams are best 2 players in draft. If Jags draft anybody else at 3 meh

On a positive note if Junior is selected at least he embraces Jacksonville and feels he would succeed in his role here.

I can see Fowler be a perennial 70+ tackles and 6+ sacks kind of guy in our system.  Disruptive, good player - but I don't see the athleticism to get 12+ sacks/year.

The kids are getting excited about the draft, as they should.

where do you think he realistically gets drafted now?

im thinking the jaguars wind up getting a trade down and possibly taking him somewhere between 12-26 if they really want him.

If the draft had more talent at the top like a typical draft, IMO few if any of these tweeners would be top 10 material.  Wasn't long ago a "can't miss", "safest pick of the draft" OLB busted at pick 4.  That, after going to the Seahawks, who have had success with players in his mold.

So, if we do trade down into that area, I think that's where the value should be.  Wouldn't be upset at all with any of the tweeners there.

I have to laugh. You two think that Beasley is going to bust because of something that happened to a 2nd round pick we drafted nearly a decade ago.

Hell with it. I agree. Beasley=Groves. Thank you for showing me the light.

Groves couldn't play either position. If he could rush the passer, they would've found a way to get production out of him.

Beasley is on another planet as far as athleticism, doesn't matter if he's LEO or they have to put him at OTTO and have him rush only on passing downs. They will find a way to make him productive

Skuta is our OTTO, so you are saying we would spend the 3rd pick in the draft on a backup OTTO who only plays on 3rd downs?
