I say put Marqise Lee at the Slot and draft Amari Cooper.

 

Cooper/Robinson/Hurns outside with Lee in the Slot.

 

Thomas and Lewis as the 2 tight ends.

 

The only thing we need is a stud RB and I can see that offense be really good.

 

Well, that and our offensive line and quarterback to get their protections right.  I've heard that Olson is big on working protections and did a good job with Carr in Oakland... If they can get that stuff worked out, we have enough talented weapons to be an explosive offense.

Him and Locket are prob the best bets for sure slot WR and PR studs, if we can grab one of the pass rushers and RB in the 1st 2 rounds and some how come away with an extra pick in the 3rd or 4th i'll be all for a slot in the 3rd. I still think young ILB and FS is then slot right now. At worst we can go Robinson Hurns Lee for another year. Where as we have nothing behind Poz and FS is a stop gap guy

I also like Agholor in the 2nd round. Bigger than Lockett. However, he'd be my 3rd choice after P.J. Williams (safety) and Gordon/Gurley.

Devin Smith seems like a guy people are sleeping on. Just watched a couple of his games and wow does this kid make plays. HIs combination of speed and hands are amazing, he reminds me of Antonio Brown. He can fill in that slot role and play outside. Definetly someone I wouldn't mind taking in the second round

I have been looking at Vince Mayle of Washington State as a Slot WR candidate. First off, he had something like 106 catches for Washington State last season. Second he is a bigger WR, 6'2" 220 lbs with a basketball background. His forte is to high point and box out the defenders to grab the pass. So in essence he is kind of a small TE who has big strong hands and the body to handle the middle of the field. I think he is a mid Rd 4 to early Rd 5 selection.

He's probably going to be better suited to play outside. I'm thinking Caldwell is looking for a quick twitch WR in the slot with some return ability.

I see a lot of small WRs playing the slot and they get their clock cleaned. Perhaps a bigger WR that can box out and post up LBs in the middle of the field might be a better approach. It is all about YAC and if a small guy gets creamed by a LB then the arms get shorter and the fear factors into playing.

 

Look at Tyler Lockett and Rashad Greene, both are small WRs and they are not built to take a beating. A 6'2" 220 lbs WR who can box out the LB is better prepared for the physical nature of playing in the middle of the field.

Regarding Mayle he's quick for a guy his size. He can play either outside or slot once he refines his routes some he can be a heck of a player

I don't deny any of what you said. It makes sense to me. I just think Caldwell prefers the smaller, shifter guys in the slot.

It can be done both ways. Welker/Edelman and Colston/Boldin types both create different mismatches against LBs and safeties.

Why not just draft a full size receiver and move Lee or Blackmon to slot? Why limit a pick to a limited sized player? BAP the wide receiver!

It certainly would make sense to draft a WR that can play all the positions asked of him (in case of an injury situation) and not just the Slot WR position.
