That is exciting.  Can't wait to see what their actual plans look like.  Could be huge for down town.

I'm only guessing what would be there but I'm thinking restaurants, hotel, shops, boat tours, outdoor play and water fountain area for kids and a huge drive in movie theater!

I don't believe those renderings were done by anyone associated with Khan's plan. They had a mock up they used when they started talking about this last year, but it was light on details.  Subsequently, there's been a lot of talk about not only having the indoor practice facility and offices for the Jaguars on that property, but also a possible aquarium, and of course that Ferris Wheel. 

 

In speaking to someone who is with the organization who has had conversations with Mr. Khan and Lamping about this subject, there's been a lot of talk about having the Maritime Museum expand their presence in the area including having a ship as a permanent exhibit, retail, restaurants, clubs, and housing.  From what I was told, there are already a couple of restaurants who have expressed interest in being part of the plan along with one major hotel. 

 

Putting that land to some use will change the dynamic of that entire area. 

 

To answer the question about this being the death of the Landing, I don't think so.  The intention is to create a corridor between the Landing and the Ship Yards for an entertainment venue similar to what we had during the Super Bowl a decade ago.  The Landing is already working on plans to basically demolish the place and rebuild with a multi-use facility that has a mix of housing, retail, and entertainment options.

 

The aquarium proposal looks pretty slick, and would be a major draw if it ever came to life.

If you put that aquarium to anything near the drawings previously mentioned in this thread, it would be a huge boost to downtown.  You'd see a lot more restaurants and things pop up just to support that area.

 

The only time I really go downtown is for Jag related events or the arena occasionally.  It would be nice to visit more often...with the river, it could be a really nice place.

Our downtown already has tons of options to draw people via food or leisure: MOCA, Hemming Park, Chamblains, Sweet Pete's, the River Walk including the new Southbank that is about to be done, Chomp Chomp, Art Walk, The Volstead, all of The Elbow, The Candy Apple Cafe, the Florida Theatre,  etc

 

And then there are all of the projects in progress now: The Bostwick building turning into The Cowford, The Marble Bank turning into the Bullbriar, Super food Truck moving in on Laura, the Barnett Building and Laura Apartments getting renovated, the new Dupont nonprofit center, Levels, etc

 

Plus all of the new Brooklyn area that is getting close to being ready, and the new Intuition location by the stadium

 

Downtown is looking pretty good to me

None of those images I posted are offical in any way, shape or form. Those were renderings based on information about what angle Shad "might" want to take when the whole converstaion began about his interest in developming this land.

 

The whole point of the tweets yesterday where that specifics on what Shad & co. want to actually - DO - with the shipyards will be released in a couple of months.

 

The stadium is perfectly nestled into a cool little corner of downtown that lends itself very well to building up the surrounind areas. I think the bleak, unused shipyards, which sit right there at the foot print of the stadium, is a perfect place to start.

Just a little update on the shipyards project.  Sounds like the Jags will roll out Shad's vision for developing the area on 2/16 during the state of the franchise gathering.
