The thing to remember about risers and fallers, is that it's only happening in the media.

 

Scouts already have a good ballpark where the players are going to fit.  Unless there's a bombshell (and they are rare), the "risers" and "fallers" are a result of the media getting a better idea of what the scouts have been thinking/feeling all along.

 

Last year was a hot mess for those falling for the hype.  Planet Theory should have kept folks from trying to write off Clowney from being the first overall, when there was little doubt all along he was an elite prospect without peer.  On the flip side, you had those who couldn't understand why Bridgewater "fell" because they summarily dismissed all valid criticism of him that placed him what was essentially a round shy of their overzealous expectations.

 

Scouts are looking for prototypes and or specific "fits."  The farther you get away from prototypical measurements, achievements, and the fewer boxes checked, etc... the more you'll have to make up that with superlatives above and well beyond your peers in key concerns.  Even then, at the end of the day it still unfortunately may be a less complete scorecard than other candidates may have.
