Pass interference may become reviewable
|
What needs to be done is to train the Refs into what is and what isnt actually pass interference. Relook at the Rules and make changes as needed. I mean You can touch a reciever 5 yards past the LOS but they allow hand fighting. There is no Face gaurding in the NFL so you can hold your hands up and not look back long as you dont touch the reciever yet i see it called as PI all the time. REview the rules and train the refs correctly and that would eliminate alot of the problems.

Quote:Better yet. Make it just a 15 yard penalty. Not spot of the foul. That would do absolutely no good. It is still an automatic first down for the offense.

Review the rules and train the refs correctly and that would eliminate a lot of the problems. The problem is it's a judgment call. They have to rewrite the rules to make it very specific: holding arm, grabbing jersey, shoving player, etc. Too often officials are free to determine if DPI occured when it is just good defense. During the wild card Ravens/Steelers game, I saw DPI get called for tangled feet. That is where reviewing it would be helpful - so the referee can see the cornerback was not trying to knock down the receiver.

Quote:It's impossible to not make it a judgement call. I know there will always be some instances when DPI must be a judgment call, such as the ball being uncatchable. But how in the world can you say grabbing a receiver's arm is not DPI? We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
BB had it right, all plays should be reviewable. The NFL doesn't have to increase the number of challenges allowed, but why not open everything up for review? Makes sense to me.

Quote:Oh goody. More reviews. 4-hour games. I say we cut the quarters to 5 minutes each. I think this solves everyone's problems.
Quote:That would do absolutely no good. It is still an automatic first down for the offense. So is a facemask.... a 15 yard penalty is not nearly as game changing than a 50 yard penalty. Im still in favor of review, but I also think the max penalty should be 15

I'm currently the only one to vote "I don't care". Yes! I'm on an island!!!

Quote:Better yet. Make it just a 15 yard penalty. Not spot of the foul. I agree with this 100%. How many times have you seen teams just throw bombs down field to get a PI call. Just look at the Ravens, they do that crap once a game, and it works. ![]() We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!

Quote:Pass interference is all objective anyway Does anyone else hate the words objective and subjective? It's like they are confusing for no real benefit.
Quote:Does anyone else hate the words objective and subjective? It's like they are confusing for no real benefit. How are they confusing? For the purpose of this topic, they are opposites.
Quote:How are they confusing? For the purpose of this topic, they are opposites. Because I could answer your question by saying ,"that's objective" and people would think they knew what I was talking about. We show less advertisements to registered users. I know that you won't understand this, but a very large part of the sport of football is that sometimes the Referees make mistakes, just like in real life. The Refs make mistakes and it's up to the players to overcome it and still work for success. The seemingly incessant stopping to review that goes on in the NFL, in my mind anyway, just takes away from the nature of the sport. So what if a mistake was made? Deal with it and move on.

Quote:If teams could review pass interference penalties? Teams would still have only two challenges. Adding pass interference to the list of challengeable plays would only increase the probability of coaches throwing their red flags twice. Why does anybody think it might add an hour to the game? It could add a few minutes after the two minute warning and in overtime, but not an hour as someone else stated. Your reasoning implies you oppose all reviews for anything including scores, turnovers, sideline catches, and illegal forward passes. Quote:Teams would still have only two challenges.
