He isn't going to Houston, so there's really nothing to discuss there.  He'll end his career in Denver. 

 

He's not one of the top QBs in the league any longer.  He's marginally better than average.  Other than running around doing the nonsense he does at the line of scrimmage, and his thousand or so endorsement deals, the player he is on the field today is a shell of what he was in his prime.  He can't make the throws with the level of precision he did in his heyday.  The arm has never been the same since the neck surgeries.  Watching him miss pass after pass today on anything that was going more than 15 yards down the field was quite satisfying after having seen him shred the Jags for so long. 

 

He's one of the greatest QBs to ever play the game, but he's riding on fumes at this point.

He obviously can't handle the rigorously long nfl season anymore. He looked bad for the last month, month and a half of the season. I think it's time for him, because he won't be leading any nfl team to the playoffs, and especially not a superbowl. Last year was his final chance.

Peyton Manning set a record today that reflects his tremendous regular season success and relatively speaking lack of success in the post season. 

 

According to Adam Schefter,  Peyton Manning now has an NFL all time leading 13 playoff losses.  

 

I saw a stat after the game yesterday that Peyton has been 1 and done 9 times in the playoffs. Meanwhile, Tom Terrific is on his way to his 9th AFCC game.

 

I can't express how much joy it brings me to know that regardless of how many records Peyton breaks, regardless how many yards and TDs thrown, and regardless of how many regular season wins, Eli will always have more Super Bowl rings.

I remember, back in the day, when Dan Marino played his last game against the Jags in our stadium. I believe to this day, that the extent of the Jags victory had something to do with Dan Marino's decision to retire from football.

 

In many ways, last night reminded me of what happened to Dan Marino.

 

There comes a time in all great athlete's life when they have to make that tough decision to hang it up because they are unable to compete at the high level they expect of themselves.

 

Peyton did not want to rush to judgement last night about his retirement, but clearly he knows that is the path before him.

 

Why the Broncos want to continue to pay him 19 Mil per season for that kind of performance is beyond me.

Didn't see the game, but it sounds like he was normal post-season Peyton.

He had been playing injuried for a few weeks, and they probably shouldnt have played him in this game.  I wasnt sure how much of the injury was due to his age though.

I kind of got the feeling that if he does come back, that it will be his last year... last chance to win a SB for Denver.

His performance was bizarre.

 

In his previous playoff losses with Denver (Baltimore in 2012, Seattle in last year's Super Bowl), Manning would not attack deep. 

 

It was as if his arm, post neck surgery, gave out completely.

 

Yesterday, it seemed half of his passes were deep passes, and all of them were overthrows.

And way too much wallet padding as well.  It is a long long season and you could see how someone that is older just doesn't hold up like they did even 5 years ago.  This game does chew you up and ground you down.  I would expect the philosophy next year is to find any way possible to "rest" him during the season and take out some of the grind.

 

I bet the league will find a way to force a favorable schedule to assist with his farewell tour.

Fans deserve better. Thanks for all the good times too many are in the past.

No one has been able to pad their stats as well as Peyton. He has all of those regular season records, but they mean practically nothing given his failures in the post season. Yes he won a superbowl, but given his regular season numbers, and the supporting cast he's had, especially at Denver I dont see why he should be mentioned in the greatest of all time discussion. He's been very poor for the second half of the season (and obviously the playoffs) as he admitted. I think he'll give it another year but I can see him retiring mid season.

 

Its well known that Peyton has 2 major weaknesses

 

1) Weather

2) Pressure

 

He cant perform in less than ideal weather conditions, and he definitely cant perform under pressure. Hence why he's been 1 and done NINE times in the playoffs.

 

Tom Brady may not have the regular season numbers, but I would take him every time over Peyton. He's a much better, and far more clutch QB and has basically dragged a more often than not, subpar team constantly to AFC Championship and Superbowl games. He's been in 9 AFC championship games, doesnt have a losing record in the regular season to any team in the NFL, has the most playoff wins, and most TDs in playoff history.

 

For me it isnt even a discussion. I know people hate the Patriots and Belichick but I have nothing but respect for Brady.

I think Marino's retirement was probably motivated by what Jimmy Johnson did. 

 

The same could be true of Manning depending on the fate of John Fox. 

 

Johnson retired the day after the Dolphins were hammered 62-7 by the Jags in the playoffs.  I think Marino looked at having to work under another new head coach in Wannstedt, and decided it just wasn't worth it any longer.  His body had been failing him for years, and it was time to hang them up.

 

Manning will have to make the same decision at some point.  It could be a situation where the coaching situation in Denver may nudge that along.

Those nagging injuries start to pile up.  At some point the body just doesn't bounce back the way it used to.  I don't think this is the one that will force him into retirement, but you never know.

they also mentioned last night how he uses a lot of lower body in his throws. Injury to that will almost certainly cause inaacuracy.
