Finally some sanity returning to the military

#21

Quote:What alarms me the most is the lack of combat readiness. The patrol boat that was captured by the Iranians should have never happened and the behavior of some of the crew was embarrassing. That one incident was highly indicative of the lax attitudes of the chains of command who are more concerned with toeing the PC line to get promoted than to ensure their troops are properly trained. Not to mention the bravado of hostile militaries which freely challenge us because they're keenly aware of the lack of fortitude by this administration and the climate it has fostered amongst the ranks.

I don't know if you are/were in the Navy, but much of the tradition has been wiped out.  In my eyes, a "chief" in today's Navy is not a Chief.  Some of the "hazing" rituals actually served a purpose and taught important life lessons.

You're absolutely right, the conduct of the crew was embarrassing and a good indicator of why a PC military is wrong.

So what is the purpose of the military?  I'll give you a hint, it's not there to cater to fruitcakes.

I spent 8 years in the Navy...The Navy has been built on tradition...It's rare to have much change happen...We wore almost the same uniform since WWII including the bell bottomed dungaree pants and shirt, and "boon dockers"  we still used the boatswain pipe for all events, reveille, sweepers,, breakfast, lunch, and, dinner for the crew, every daily event has its own tune to blow on the boatswains pipe...Then came Obama trying to change everything that means anything to sailors and it didnt go over so they changed it back...

The purpose of the Army is to kill people and break things.

LOL.  Do you have any idea how many times the uniform has changed?  Just taking a guess, since I got out in 1998 after 9 years the "working uniform" (dungarees) has changed probably 4 or 5 times.

I would bet that people don't know, even current service members why dungarees had bell bottoms.  It certainly wasn't for "fashion", it actually served a purpose.

If sailors today were trained and had knowledge of that, it would/could possibly save lives.

Quote:It's amazing to me.  They (The Navy) actually wasted a lot of training time addressing "transgender issues".  I mean really?  Who gives a flying [BAD WORD REMOVED] if some fruitcake "decides" that he's not a male or vice versa?  That's their own personal business and has nothing to do with the job at hand.

The Navy also failed when they tried to take sailor's titles away from them in an attempt to make "everyone the same".  What is even more ridiculous is when they tried to change job titles to be "non-gender specific".  As an example, the job of a Radioman changed to "Radio Specialist" in order to be "inclusive".  The thing is, job titles like that as well as others (Fire Controlman) have a lot of tradition in The Navy.  Nobody's saying that a female can't hold those positions, all that's being said is the title shouldn't be changed and/or taken away.
PC gone awry!  Traditions are there for a reason.  I was pleased to hear the SecNav backed off of the renaming job titles issue.

"old-school emphasis on combat readiness and the spirit of the United States military" Um, the whole point of the military, hello!

"Our focus is defending this country, and we should not spend so much time on social engineering." Again.

"the strong emphasis on social reform in the last eight years sometimes came at the expense of the military’s core objective." You don't say?

"no more political correctness, just a focus on being warriors.” Enough said.

The military is not a place to wage your personal war on or for the LGBTQ community, feminist ideals, or any other such thing. It is the machine that keeps this nation safe from all enemies, foreign and domestic. It is not the place to be employed and then cry they won't let you be who you want to be. You join to be who they want you to be. Period. If you're a female and want to do covert ops, go to college and join the CIA, it's the only way it's going to happen, even then it's not guaranteed. I am all for women breaking the glass ceiling and people being able to be who they want to be but there is a time and place for everything and it's not always in the way we want it.

Wasn't it so they could be tied at the ends and the waistline and somehow be used as flotation devices if you had to go overboard?

yes!!! If you went overboard you could take them off without having to remove your boots and then tie them at the ends and inflate the legs and use as a flotation device
