Week 2 News and Notes

#21

Sounds like this secondary could be quite patchy.  Gratz, McCray, Evans, Guy, Blackmon

Youth will have to step up.  I hope Evans can elevate his game.  I'd like to see him do well, but he's done precious little to inspire confidence.

Good to hear, I never had any doubts about Blake's attitude though.  The kid is going to be a great leader and representative of this franchise going forward.

Time for McCray to step up. Losing Alan Ball would hurt.

Kicker Kai Forbath, who’s questionable, will test out a sore groin on Saturday to see if he can kick in Sunday’s game. Defensive lineman Kedric Golston is doubtful.

Barry Cofield, who sustained a high ankle sprain, was moved to short-term Injured Reserve earlier this week.

McCray will have to play well - But McCray has played well when he filled in at corner last year and during his preseason reps.  Surprisingly well.

Evans, on the other hand, has ranged between serviceable and awful IMO.  I'm more concerned about SS than corner in this one.

Josh Evans is awful.

I'm actually pretty confident in McCray, I think he could do an acceptable job. SS is a larger worry to me, every big Eagles play went right down the middle of the field.

Yep, McCray has flashed every time he's played. He's had some learning mistakes as you'd expect, but I feel better with him at CB than Evans or Pros at safety.

Quote:Redskins expecting 'huge' Week 2 from D-Jax

DeSean Jackson | WAS

(September 12, 2014 12:23 PM EDT)

One Redskins player told beat writer John Keim that the team expects DeSean Jackson to have a "huge" Week 2 against the Jaguars.

"Huge day," the player said. "Huge. If it goes the way we think in the run game." The Redskins are going to build off Alfred Morris and the play-action pass game. Working in their favor is that top CB Dwayne Gratz has been banged up at practice this week, and SS Johnathan Cyprien (concussion) is likely to sit out. After a quiet Week 1, Jackson is a high-upside WR2/3 play at home.

Here's hoping DJax flops.

Can Blackmon play FS? He can't be much worse than Evans or Proz.

Why would you want him to? He is doing good as a cornerback.

With secondary banged up, I wonder if we will use several different blitzs with our linebackers. Our front four can get pressure but we may need to try and help out our secondary with extra blitzers
