Todman averaged 27 yards on kick returns last year, put up 154 all purpose yards on 25 carries and 4 catches in his only NFL start and he knows the system. That's why he has value to the team.

 

He's upgradable for sure - but I don't know if a green rookie waiver claim is the way to do it.

Todman hasn't looked good this preseason for sure, but he was serviceable last year.  I don't think it's time to panic and cut him now, he's sadly the best option out there.

The Redskins don't want him because he can't pass protect and if you can't protect RG3 you're not going to make the team.

 

Regardless of what the Redskins think, because we both know they're mostly wrong about everything, Lache passed the eye test for me, enough that I'd rather have his potential than what Todman currently brings to the team.

Todman can pass protect too.

 

Most people overlook a backs ability to pass protect but with the NFL going more towards passing attacks it is VERY important. 

 

Think of it like this, if a back is good at pass blocking and they line up with him against an obvious pass defense, then when the audible is made then it greatly favors said back to pick up easy yards.  Many above backs (below and above average running ability) pad their stats this way.

I don't have a high opinion of Gerhart which is why I said that. It isn't that I think D-Rob should be starting. I just think by season's end he'll be the best of the crap we have on the roster.

Toby is a starter in this league.  Our run blocking sucks though.  Todman does need good run blocking to make things happen, D-Rob has the ability to hit a home run at any time. Seems like a good choice by the coaching staff, given they know the plays they will call this year.

Valid points for sure, but this team isn't starting Blake Bortles which tells me it's not playing to win this year, and since we both know that Todman isn't apart of future plans, why don't we let him walk for someone who might be

I can't see Robinson starting at any point. Until he can run between the tackles effectively and hold onto the ball he's a change of pace back. Gerhart isn't a slouch on 3rd downs either.

Well, for starters, I don't agree with the bolded and underlined.  I think the team realizes the playoffs are a pipe dream this year with either QB playing behind a patchwork O-line and throwing to rookie WRs  -- and they want the proper pieces in place when the potential franchise QB gets behind center. 

 

Todman likely isn't part of the future, but I don't think that effects  how you decide to develop your next starting QB should have an effect on the RB3 spot.

I think the biggest thing is we need more talent on the O-line to help balance the Jekyll/Hide zone blocking scheme we've employed. ITs worked extremely well for pass blocking so long as the line does its job but its flawed as heck for running the ball. I suppose in a pass happy league, It isn't the worse thing in the world.

Gerhart and DRob will make a great combo. Ger is hardcore up the middle, and DRob is great on the outside.


And I like Storm. Seems like he can add some valued depth.

Agreed.  The line is the biggest impediment to having an effective running game.  It's going to be tough sledding at least early in the year while they get that sorted out.
