Surprise cuts?

Quote:Surprise keeps?  Prosinski remains for another year just to frost the message board.

I wont be surprised if he makes it.  Very athletic and good special teamer.  And can play both safety positions in a pinch if need be.  Those are valuable commodities when deciding upon a backup player.

As an added bonus, he would cause a few people around here to stroke out if he's still on the roster on opening day, which would certainly be entertaining.

There's no way Poz is cut. I just don't see it. If it happens, I would be baffled. I would be surprised if Miller got cut; but with our depth at D-line, it's possible. I don't think it will happen because of the injury to Marks.

Shorts would be a surprise. But I don't see him getting cut. They would trade him before cutting him; and I don't see either happening. I really don't foresee any surprising cuts because the surprise personnel cuts would wager a trade more possibly.

GO JAGS!

Agreed.  I think the cuts will be pretty predictable this year.  There won't be any earth shattering releases. Especially if it's a veteran being cut.  They'd get them done early enough to allow them to land on another team.  This isn't the Del Rio era any more where you cut a guy the week before the season starts once teams have set their rosters.

Quote:Taylor is as good as gone. I don't think we keep 6 wideouts seeing how we will want an extra OLineman or two on the roster even if it just a body.

based on the way our WR's go down/ get suspended maybe keeping 6 is a good idea. Not to mention Robinson has not practiced played a down yet so to count on him until week 8 is a reach.

We keep 6 on the roster with one floating on IR/ suspended.

Roy Miller getting cut due to depth? Who do we have behind him? Arby Jones...?

Well, there's also something to be said for cutting a guy you think will still be on the street if something happens and you need to bring another body in in a pinch.

Quote:If this was a team that was dealing with cap issues, maybe.  They're not, so neither of those cuts seems even remotely possible.

Surprise cuts?  Scobee or Anger.

I agree that Scobee or Anger would also be a surprise cut, if there is one. More likely a trade if anything. Redfern has looked good so far.

I only put forth Poz and Miller as extreme possibilities. I don't foresee any surprise cuts. As far as Poz is concerned, his contract is way over market value. The Jags certainly don't need the cap room, but establishing a pay scale for the future might be a consideration. IIRC he also is in the last year of his contract, so the Jags may not see him as a long-term solution.
However, from everything I've read, the Jags really like Poz.

My error. I guess the depth is at the other DT position. There's not really a lot behind Miller. But he did nothing last season, hasn't exactly flashed in preseason, and Abry Jones has gotten some kudos. It might be a position where cuts from other teams are an upgrade. Still, I don't expect any surprise cuts, but that's why they call them surprises.

Bortles.

The coaches seem to really like and trust Henne. I guess he's their answer at QB. Bortles will probably get traded to the Rams for Greg Robinson and next year's 1st round pick.

I would be surprised if Roy Miller was cut.   One of the best Defensive plays the Jaguars made in  their road pre-season game against the Lions was the 4th and short play inside the Lions 5 yard line in which Miller got penetration against Lions starting LG Rob Sims and stopped RB Joique Bell before he could pick up the first down.   That rarely happens to Bell in short yardage situations.

I guess the 4th down goal-line stand wasn't a flash?

Anger wouldn't be a huge shock at all if the right punter hit the wire, but what makes you think there's any chance of Scobee being shown the door? Has Redfern really looked so good as to challenge and beat him for the job he's had for ten years?

The only two guys I could see getting cut that would be a surprise are Lewis or Poz. If we had any kind of reasonable backup I think they'd cut Poz in an instant, but his backup is a MLB that runs a 4.8 so Poz is safe.
