No doubt.  Many back-up QBs are smart enough to do what's required - stay healthy - and laugh all the way to the bank.  It's still demanding - but a pretty cushy gig for the money.

I don't know what organization wouldn't utilize the more productive person. If competition and getting better is the theme then I don't know how you buy into that when the better player is told to just sit for the year.

I'm struggling to understand why it's so difficult for some to grasp that this isn't a competition.  The starting job is Bortles when he's ready.  Nobody is disputing that at all.  The only competition at the QB position is the one between Blake Bortles and himself.  It's on him to develop his skills and to get to the point where the coaches are confident that he's ready to assume that role.  It's really not that tough to get, but for some people, it's like rocket surgery.

Bortles is getting practice time with the 1's because he's earned it. Remember last year Gabbert and Henne were neck and neck.... Thats not saying much for Henne, and with two preseason games left, Bradley wants to see whats he got when it won't cost them anything in the regular season. They are still preparing Henne to play the regular season.  It's not surgery like FBT said.

LOL.  That's pretty much the way it is in the Navy.  Your secondary job is to teach people below you and take the job of the person above you.

 

I kind of see football the same way.  Remember how Maurice Jones Drew talked about learning from Fred Taylor?  It's kind of the same thing.  I'm sure Fred knew that his days were numbered as a Jaguar at the time, yet he was a professional and mentored Jones-Drew.
