Quote:That obviously was the product of nerves....

i.e. "he wasn't ready", yet Del [BAD WORD REMOVED] as he usually did, had no concept of gauging when a rookie was really ready or not and would usually throw them to the wolves.

IIRC, he put him out there fielding punts in preseason. Hardly throwing him to the wolves. You've gotta see what a guy's got, especially a UDFA, to determine if you want to carry him on the 53 man roster.

Dude was drafted for the sole purpose of returning punts. I remember they brought him back for a game a year or two later and what did he do? Muffed the damn punt. Owens was trash. Good CFL player but who cares about that.

Wow- I had high hopes for Chad Owens.  Unfortunately We have had 10 years of sub-par WR's on the team.

I find myself reminiscing about Ernest Wilford sometimes.

Ah, old Ernest. Guy could catch anything but once he got it.... looked like he had a 100 lb weight tied to him as he tried to run away from someone...

Hurns is definitely taking advantage of the opportunity, and it looks like he's starting to gain the confidence of Bortles. He had a good night. That bodes well for him if he keeps it up.
Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Looked better than Brown. Hurns was routinely making catches that weren't that easy and Brown was dropping stuff that couldn't have been handed to him better.

No pain, no gain.

He really seized the opportunity that he was given. Looked solid out there.
Respect the game.  Play with a sense of urgency.

1.)  Take care of the ball.  Win the turnover battle.

2.)  It's all about 3rd down.  Win on 3rd down to win the game.

3.) Playmakers make plays.  The only reason that you put your uniform on is to make plays. In order to EARN your paycheck, you must make plays.

Learn from the great collapse of 2023.

Brown has always been just a guy to me. And with all those drops lately makes room for someone else who I labeled as just a guy, hurns. I'll admit he played well though.
Coughlin when asked if winning will be a focus: "What the hell else is there? This is nice and dandy, but winning is what all this is about."

It was great to see Hurns step up, especially with all of the WR injuries. We may need Hurns to play a significant role early on. He just might take that opportunity and run with it, especially if any of the higher pedigreed WR's (Lee/ Robinson/ Shorts) disappoint.

Its because he's from the U.
