That doesnt make sense, unless the coach is gonna be GM coach which is not always a good idea, they will not have full control anyways

Ah! Good catch. Yeah, it was pretty obvious that Kelly was the one making all the calls there.

Look how that turned out.

I'm trying to make myself more informed and less opinionated.

Stop saying whatever stupid thing you're talking about and pay attention to all the interesting things I have to say!

Quote:In theory no where.

But guys like Jimmy Johnson and the likes have been coach/gm type combos before.

It can be done. But as you point out... the owner has the cash, and he really is the one with 100% control ain't he?

also a good thing to note is that the majority of times i have seen a coach have autonomy as coach/gm it does not work out well.

Coughlin when asked if winning will be a focus: "What the hell else is there? This is nice and dandy, but winning is what all this is about."

LA loses their #1 and #3 picks this year also as part of Goff deal.

BTW, I believe all 3 openings still have the existing GM.

Eh.... They did pretty good this year with a rookie QB.

Meanwhile, the ship sinking process moved to San Fran.

If Chip were to leave San Fran, the next coach will have it as bad as Bradley did his first two seasons here. lol

i would not be surprised to see chip kelly get canned. he has been a trainwreck.

there are also rumors that kubiak could be retiring from coaching the broncos due to health issues.

there will definitely be a few more coaching jobs opening up too, but i am not worried about losing out because we have a good GM. thats silly.

Sounds like a load of donkey poo. If i was a HC and i knew the owner would be loyal even if i sucked at first that alone would get me turning in their direction.

Now say they also let me know i could go a different direction at QB based on MY judgement and they had plenty of cap space and a top 10 defensive unit in place plus a top 10 draft pick.

That literally sounds like the perfect job opening.

What A-List Coach is demanding full control?

Coughlin?  I'm pretty sure he knows that ship is long gone, since that's what got him fired here in the first place.

Who else?

Anyone?

I can't even fathom someone like McDaniels making that demand, given how his first HC stint went.

I'm not even 'anti-PFT' but this seems way off base.

Also... absolutely worst case, we can't land one of the "A-List" guys we (as fans) want... Marrone ends up with the job.

Not my ideal pick, but as a fallback plan... I don't hate it.

Quote:The two biggest examples I can think of as far as a "Total Control" Head Coach were Coughlin when he got here and Holmgren when he moved to Seattle. Both had good success early, but could not sustain it over the long-term. To me, the two jobs of a General Manager and a Head Coach are simply way too much for one person to do alone. You can have input back and forth, but you need more than one guy to oversee things.

That and the general conflict of interest that exists between a GM that should be building the roster with an eye toward the future and a Coach who is trying to win right now.

Not directed at the above quote, but in general I don't think granting final say on the 53 to a Coach is the same as "full control".  And I'm also not suggesting that you take granting that power to a coach lightly either.  At least you would still have a separate person making final decisions on who to bring in in free agency and who to draft.  And you still have someone with hopefully less of an emotional attachment to certain players when it comes time to negotiate a new deal.

In the end, I think a scenario where the Coach and GM see eye to eye on most things is the best and to have some system in place for arbitrating disagreements on personnel.  I believe Coughlin or any other coach with a similar resume is going to get final say on the 53 wherever they end up though.

Kubiak retires, Chip goes to Denver, trades for Romo, gets him broken (again) dumpster fire, veteran FA sell off, Jags pick up all of em, Championship in 2018!

That isn't too far fetched right?

I agree. The only coach with total control is the hoodie up in NE. All the other coaches have to answer either to a GM, VP of Football operations, or even the owner themselves. No way every coach is demanding full control. Hell, I'd be shocked if more than one demanded it.

Quote:They said.

We have a competent gm in place who's leading the search for our new HC.

But MOST of the "A" list HC candidates out there won't come I to a situation where they don't have 100% control.

So because we kept DC.

We're not gonna get an "A" list HC?

Comments?
Speculation to see if it sticks?

We land a proven HC, or one of the best coordinators in the league.  Book it.
