The Jags Say They'll Sit Bortles For A Year......

#21

Quote:they called you and said they gonna sit him for a year?
No, I have ears. I listened to the Jags staff say it during their presentation.

Next stupid question.

What lies behind us, and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.

Quote:Congrats, Jags. 3rd and 4th round picks are who you sit for a year. NOT the third stinking pick in the first round.

Thanks for nothing. See you next May.....

Relax.

Quote:Maybe but at the 3rd pick I expect him to be on Lucks level he should be winning games for us
Do you not understand how good Luck was? No prospect since Manning has been that good, not one.

The Browns offered an entire draft for him and the Colts laughed at them. They release Manning for him.

And you expect us to a player of his level with the third overall pick? Really? Is this a joke?

Quote:Because teams are desperate to win now.

Gus and Dave know they have a time scale to build this franchise from the ground and they don't have to rush this.

The roster Smith left was a joke.

Find me the last top 5 QB that didn't start day one he shouldn't need to be developed we drafted him that high to be an impact play someone to build around not develop?

I'm ok with the pick but have real concern if the plan is to sit him for a year

No it's not a joke they said he was their guy even at #1 you mean to tell me the guy we evaluate as the Best player in the entire draft has to sit for a year and develop?

Dave doesn't have to win this season, it's another development year.

And how many have really panned out that have been thrown in straight away?

Luck, Newton, Stafford, Ryan.

That's since 2005.

Ryan wasn't name starter of the Falcons until August 24th. If they believe Bortles can start the season, we won't know until around that point I'd imagine.

Quote:If its the right way why is it so rare?
Because coaches of players drafted that high are usually afraid to sit them. It makes it too easy for fans and GMs to get restless, and makes it much easier for the GM to go to the owner at the end of a disappointing year and argue that he should keep his job while the coach is fired, because the coach wasn't playing the guys the GM gave him.

If Bortles sits in 2014, then starts in 2015 and beyond and we make three or four deep playoff runs with him, maybe even win the big one, will you guys still be whining about him sitting out his first year.

We're also all assuming that he doesn't Russell Wilson his way into the job and just flat outplay Henne in camp.

I hope that's not the plan we should be trying to win this year

It's okay Manziel will fall to the 2nd round and then the true competition begins!

Could you responsibly start any new qb behind this line?  It's why we have Henne.  I bet Bortles takes over at some point in 2014.  Staff is just lowering expectations.

I also don't know if you can say he'll sit for a year for sure or not. Hard to trust what these guys say after the massive smoke screen they just laid.

Trying and "required to" are very different. Hence the difference in approach to the franchise QB.

Do you think he's a magician? Do you know how bad the roster he took over was?

If he proves he's able to pick up the offense and ascend to the starting role this year, they're not going to keep him off the field.

This is why so many QB's are busts, they are forced into a bad situation too early.  Let the kid sit.  We weren't going to make the playoffs this year anyways.  So what if we end up with another pick in the top half of the draft?

Life will go on
