Yes, he'll likely show up when it's mandatory, but he's sending a bad message to the organization by ignoring their attempts to contact him. Last thing this team needs is a malcontent.
I get the business side of things, and he's a vested vet who will show up in mandatory sessions. Still, a dubious start with your new team, especially one that is relatively young and looking to forge leadership ties with players of his caliber. The lack of communication with your employer is dodgy too. Hopefully, he comes in, plays well, assumes a good role and make fans forget this in a pinch. Tis May after all. Older guys like him try to milk any off time they can muster. Remember Clem...
Success is a journey, not a destination. Go all out Mighty Jaguars.

This doesn't look good regardless if he's a vet and it's only missing voluntary. To come here and do this to your new team, to me is childish. I think he'd have a better chance of getting a new contract or getting a discussion going if he showed up and balled out. I have very little confidence that he's going to show up with the will to perform. And because of that, I'd just cut his dead weight after training camp if he doesn't perform. This makes me hate the Julius Thomas signing even more.......

Jvillejags, that's what we are all saying, it doesn't look good in spite of timeline and status, but why angst to hypertension in May? Let's see what he brings to the table in Jville first.

Nah, he's the tweeter diva. Git it right son.

If my job wanted me to volunteer for workouts, then I wouldn't show up.
If they made it mandatory, then I would. I wouldn't call my boss and tell him anything if it wasn't mandatory.
There is a difference between not voluntary contacting and not returning calls. If Albert is just straight up ignoring phone calls from Marrone, then he's being a doosh
I've seen multiple people use the comparison "if my job wanted me to work voluntarily blah bah", and sure that has some merit but when literally every single other person in your job shows up and is putting in the extra work together it doesn't look well on you especially when you're just ignoring your boss and no one has an answer for where you are or what your thought process is.
The CBA is already limiting the time these guys have to come together and gel as a unit, so ideally you'd like to see your veteran new Left Tackle eager to get in here and start building some type of cohesion with the other guys. At the same time he is just missing workouts. He's a seasoned pro, and if he plans on playing this fall I'm sure he's maintaining some type of football shape. Ultimately I think he shows and I hope he wins the LT job so we can kick Cam into LG for this season. Then next year Albert retires or whatever, and Cam steps in to be our LT, a la Tunsil. Something else is going on here. Hopefully he isn't taking a Jacksonville vacation paycheck and wants to play some damn ball. Right now, looks sketchy in my opinion. Older guys like him try to milk any off time they can muster. Remember Clem...I don't think the veteran leadership thing is really an issue. The guys in the locker room are probably supporting his efforts to make more money because at the end of the day, that's what they're all there for. Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

That's good. I'm still not convinced he's trying to hold out, but if he is, it's beyond MJD levels of foolish.
He's an aging LT who hasn't played a full season recently and has 2 years at 8 mil per left. If he tries it, I wouldn't be surprised if he were cut. |
