If Watkins makes it past pick 2

#21

Quote:I don't mind trading back if the value is great, no matter who we have in mind. If Caldwell is a great GM, the benefit of a windfall of picks will out weigh the chance of missing out on Manziel or Bridgewater.
It's kind of a double-edged sword, though.  The only way we'd get a windfall of picks is if someone wanted to move up for a good QB as it's unlikely someone is going to give up a ton of picks for Watkins.  So either we stand pat and take the QB that everyone wants, or take the windfall of picks and miss out on him.  I'd personally just rather have the QB if our scouting department agrees with whomever is trying to trade up.

Watkins at 3 seems a little high.  Very explosive obviously.  But typically you'd like to see a guy with elite measurables if you are drafting a WR that high.  He isnt Calvin Johnson or AJ Green.  Clemson used him on a lot of bubble screens and a lot of WR sweep handoffs.  Just like Percy Harvin he has the physical talent to be a really good WR in the league even if he wasnt always used like a true WR in college.  But he isnt Calvin Johnson or AJ Green either.  Those guys are just physically superior.

Clowney is the only prospect with the elite height, weight, athleticism, who we've seen dominate games.

So what do you do when he's not there?

Maybe....if the Eagles don't take him as a replacement to DeSean.

Quote:That's like saying the Bengals shouldn't have taken AJ Green because Randall Cobb was there in the second round. The guys you listed could be solid NFL receivers.

Watkins is an elite prospect with star potential.

I don't see Sammy Watkins as AJ Green-esque. (or projecting to that level of WR as a pro)

I will say it again. For people trying to compare him to a taller WR taken high in the draft, its non-sense. He has the same talent coming out as Andre Johnson did, and pretty much the same knocks against him. He is worth a top 5 pick.

And for those saying this draft is deep, please explain what you mean by that....

Are you saying legit starters / pro bowl level players will be found, or just solid contributors for a few years?

Then why cite Andre Johnson as the talent comparison??

Andre's 2 inches taller and 20 lbs heavier than Watkins.

Blackmon didn't have elite measurables, and he can't take off the top of a defense like Watkins can.

I prefer Bridgewater or Mack in that order if they're available, but Watkins would be next on my list and certainly top 5 worthy IMO

As long as they don't take Mack I'll be fine.

Quote:Picking Watkins there would be foolish, IMO. There will be WR1 quality WR at the Jags pick @ 39 if they really want one that bad.

Picking Mack @ 3 also would be foolish because he's not a slam dunk kind of prospect IMO. If you're going to use the pick at 3 and not trade down, and Clowney is off the board, you might as well just take Manziel or Bridgewater.

I have been all over the "board" with our first round pick. I would be quite happy with Watkins, if he makes it past Fisher. Whomever we pick, I will be happy with, as it would be hard to screw up a third overall pick. Wouldn't it?

You'd think so....but given our history, well.....I wouldn't wanna tempt fate by saying that! :pinch:

I think the Jaguars will have some more attractive trade-down options this year than last, especially if it's for Clowney, but who knows what type of value Bradwell
have assigned to the pick? Who knows if Clowney is like Cyprien was last year--someone that they like too much to risk losing in a trade back?

Who is this Bradwell you speak of?  You must know a lot about the Jaguars.

Quote:Devante Adams is a realistic possibility to still be there. As is Jordan Matthews.

Brandin Cooks is a legit comparison to Steve Smith unlike the many phony comparison's of tiny receivers to Steve Smith of the past X number of years...

They all could still be there at the Jags 2nd pick.
They could also all be gone by 39..

It's a portmanteau of Bradley and Caldwell, because I don't feel like typing "Bradley and Caldwell" five times per post.

No, it's as easy as saying Johnny Manziel.

When you get into the endzone, act like you've been there before.

I graciously retract my sarcasm.

Nicely played.....Bradwell.....good form.
