Pass rusher, especially in a division with Luck for the next decade.  The way you beat the elite QBs is to pressure them.

5 years ago I would have said pass rusher, now I'm leaning towards WR.

 

If you look at the last few teams who have won Superbowls off the back of their pass rush (Giants and Seahawks), it was more of a team effort. Not that they didn't have at least 1 great pass rusher, but the pressure came from everywhere. Obviously having a JJ Watt in there is nice and that makes everyone around him better, but he can't do it alone. A truly great receiver however, is nearly impossible to stop within the current rules.

If Clowney is gone come #3 (because it doesnt seem like Dave is going to trade up for him) I wouldnt be upset with Dave signing Sammy Watkins!

1.)  Take care of the ball.  Win the turnover battle.

2.)  It's all about 3rd down.  Win on 3rd down to win the game.

3.) Playmakers make plays.  The only reason that you put your uniform on is to make plays. In order to EARN your paycheck, you must make plays.

if we have a chance to draft clowney then yes.  if you think mack is a great pass rusher then no.  take Watkins.

It can, but a strong pass rush is something which comes from a whole team, not one player. For example, Clowney, if he comes here could set rookie records, he could be rampant, but I still don't think we as a defense would be top 10 in sacks or pass defense because the rest of the team doesn't have enough impact players to take advantage of the disruption he will cause.

I don't think Clowney will be an option at pick 3. I have feeling the Texans will take him at 1 and field one the best pass rush in the NFL with him and JJ. We know that Caldwell will draft a quarterback we just have no idea with what pick. Clemons was acquired to improve the pass rush so that may allow for a wide receiver pick 3 and a pass rusher later in the draft. Then if you consider that this draft is deep in wide receivers It may just come down to who is rated the highest on the board at pick 3. Don't be surprised if he goes with Manziel, he would seem to fit what the Jaguars are looking for in a quarterback and has so much potential that the only down side is if the has the body to take the punishment of playing in the NFL. IF he uses his head and prevents to much damage by sliding he will be one of the more exciting quarterbacks in the league. That will definitely fill seats in the stadium and bring national media attention. If it turns out he is injury prone by his type of play it gives Caldwell the ability to justify the pick because of Manziels upside and it would prevent having to stand behind the pick for three or four years and put the brakes on to the rebuilding process. One thing is for sure Caldwell has not presented anything that would indicate what direction he will go with the first round pick and that is exactly what you want from you GM.

Everything that happens on both sides of the ball, be it success or failure, is a product of the effort and talent of the whole team, not a single player.  That's undisputed.  

I agree that bottom of the barrel to top ten is an unrealistic expectation, but Clowney, in addition to the FA moves, could/should bring us to middle of the pack.  A single season jump of 15-16 positions or so is a huge increase in any category.

The Jags desperately need a guy who is a threat to the QB whenever he's on the field.  

 

An elite WR would be a huge boon for Henne (or a rookie) and the offense - but I think adding prime talent to the pass rush will have a greater impact against the better teams in the league.

Watt is the most valuable non franchise QB in the league right now...and it isn't particularly close.
