Get the QB or build the roster

Quote:OP, all you have to worry about is that the Jags will be getting a QB prospect. Thats it! What about the existing prospects already on the roster? Just Sayn... NH3...

Quote:Warner in Arizona. Manning had some bad ones in Indy. Again the level of Manning is very high. How often will you come across this caliber of qb that can play in such poor conditions.
Quote:OP, all you have to worry about is that the Jags will be getting a QB prospect. Thats it! And to me this is the biggest thing. It's not so much of drafting qbs high, but we just seem to ignore to position completely. A qb in the 4 round in consecutive years would be fine with me, it seems we go decades without taking one, literally. Quote:I think the answer is obvious. Get the QB when the right one is available. Easier said than done (obviously). I think the Jaguars will take a QB in one of the first three rounds. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today! You have to build your roster first. A QB is the most important position by far in Football but you need to build the roster around him with a defense that can stop the opposing offense from scoring and you need to get weapons on the offensive side of the ball to help the QB with scoring.
No matter how great the QB is you need a team around him to help him out. Take Cam for example he broke records his first season but the team only went 6-10 that year because he didn't have a talented team around him. Quote:You have to build your roster first. The majority of Elway's career as well.

Nothing against the OP because you started a thread about what so many fans think, but making it one guy against the other 52 of a roster is a pretty piss poor idea. A QB is just one part of the equation. It's an important one, but to put the value as that one guy against the rest of the team is flat out stupid. Seriously, no offense to you, OP, because everyone does it.

Quote:I would argue that unless you find a Peyton Manning level guy, it doesn't work until you have a talented roster. Seattle won with Russel. Yes he is good. Yes he is clutch. Yes he was found in the third round. Yes they have a great defense and good pieces around him. You do not necessarily need a Peyton Manning.

You do not necessarily need a Peyton Manning. I didn't say you need a Peyton Manning. If you have a poor roster that can be hidden with a Peyton Manning level QB. Seattle has drafted well and has a stacked roster. That team is full of talent. Then they found their QB. They added talent and found their guy. That defense is loaded with talent.

1. Do not listen to these people who say take the QB. The QB gets you the glory but Defense wins championships. In recent History you had Tom Brady who broke the season td mark and peyton manning who also broke the record lose to the superior defense. 2. At #3 the jags should pick their 3rd best player they ranked in the draft. If we stay at 3 we are guaranteed to get one of the best players. ![]() We show less advertisements to registered users. Seriously, no offense to you, OP, because everyone does it. No offense taken. The reason I asked the question is because on this board I see this argument break out. It's almost split 50/50 on this board that most either feel the qb is the way to go or the roster is the way to go. I only pose the question because I've seen this argued on this board for quite some time now. And just how you feel that the team is the way to go in this same thread there are individuals who argue the qb is what makes it work regardless of the roster. Again no offense taken, I'm just trying to get insight into both side of the fence.

Seriously, no offense to you, OP, because everyone does it. I personally feel the roster is the way to go but I can argue when with others who feel the opposite and say qb. Especially when I've watched Peyton whip us for years using guys like Gonzales, Collie, and Blair White. I think the team is the easiest way to win because you can find a lot of good skill players but to find that caliber of qb is almost next to impossible. But I can't argue with the idea of just swing for one all the time because as a jags fan I have been on the wrong aside of when a division rival chooses correctly
We all KNOW who the answer is. He took the Gators to TWO national championships and then the Broncos to the PLAYOFFS. He provides LEADERSHIP on the field and in the locker room. With HIS GUIDANCE, Justin Blackmon can become the man he needs to be. Come one Shad Khan, don't listen to that FOOL David Caldwell. The key to the SUCCESS of your team is waiting for you to have the COURAGE to make the right call.

All the QB talk needs to either stopped, or discussed about in a different way.
It is obvious that if Dave believes there is a franchise QB he will pick him. None of us know what he thinks. Stop arguing about it. If you want to debate something talk about the prospects because every thing else really just obvious and redundant. Hes not going to take a QB for the sake of it. No one is advocating for that either.
Quote:Long time follower of the board here. I don't post much but will at different times of the year cause my life will allow it lol. The pick a QB just because you need one approach is for fanboys and GMs who run their teams like fanboys. Look at Idzik's Jets. Geno Smith was the "top" QB available in a dreadful class. He's now competing with a washed-up Michael Vick. I say keep building until you find a QB worth drafting. If not, take flyers on lower-round QBs, like a team would do for a LB, until the right fit comes along. It worked for the Eagles/Nick Foles and the Seahawks/Russell Wilson, and it could work for the Jags.

Hmmm... Get QB or build roster... I'm gonna have to say "Yes" on both counts.
