Gus Bradley: The Closer
|
Quote:I'm curious, exactly what signing do you think would have put the Jaguars "over the top" this season? Well...perhaps that was poorly phrased on my part. Given the numerous holes on the roster, no one guy would have put the Jaguars "over the top." But there was no guy signed that appears to give us a definite matchup advantage, either. Worst to 1st. Curse Reversed!

Nutshell:
We all like Bradley's personality. The players do seem to like playing for him, no doubt. The fans love his enthusiasm. That said, I don't think Bradley being here has made an impact on significant roster improvement. Beadles came here because we overpaid him. Perhaps the Seattle influx can be more so credited to Bradley, but thats not uncommon or unprecedented to have former players follow a coach. I see FBT's assertion as incomplete.

Quote:Nutshell: There really is no evidence unless a player speaks out as to whether he has made an impact or not. It really all is irrelevant due to the fact that his record on the field is what matters. I don't care what type of players we have when we make it deep into the playoffs, Just as long as we do. Same goes for Caldwell. Doesn't matter how you get there. All that matters is that you DO get there and stay there for years to come. Quote:Nutshell:You're not smart enough to recognize the difference between Bradley being A factor as I'm asserting vs. Bradley being THE factor, which I did not imply. The money is always going to be the primary factor, but for a small market team who doesn't have deep pockets other large market franchises come to the table with, having that extra card to play can only help this team. It's not difficult to understand. Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

A blind monkey could have written your response. Canned, canned, canned... You really need a new hobby. Hopefully, one you're actually talented at. Someone's jealous that someone can actually start a thread with intelligent, well thought out and articulated opinions. Unlike yourself.

Quote:Some of the signings were decent, inexpensive. Cog type. None of the signings made were really difference makers though. You do remember we weren't even getting these type guys previously right? We got people that would take the money and run.

I think it will payoff with Gus whenit comes to signing Priority undrafted free agents.
Quote:You're not smart enough to recognize the difference between Bradley being A factor as I'm asserting vs. Bradley being THE factor, which I did not imply. Your thread title most certainly implies it. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today! Quote:I'm of a mixed opinion on this topic. Let's not have the illusion that we could have ever been put "over the top" with a single free agency period. That's simply not realistic. The addition of Bryant, Beadles, and Gearhart are plenty to be justifiably upbeat about. The point is that players are gravitating towards Gus. This is a feeling we haven't ever had here. It's certainly something new, and something to watch, especially if it's something we can build on.

Quote:Your thread title most certainly implies it.Being the guy who can help close the deal doesn't mean that's the only factor in getting there. I'd try to equate it to someone in the corporate world who is being courted by multiple companies, but it would fall on deaf ears since there isn't a mad dash to hire the best fry cook among fast food chains. Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.
Quote:Your thread title most certainly implies it.Actually, his title means EXACTLY what he just said. Gus is A factor. Not THE factor. Once all the other items are on the table you bring in the closer to seal the deal. That's what a closer is....one additional part that may put the finishing touch on the deal If you didn't always look to argue/criticize you would understand that. Quote:I wish there was a draft for that... It shouldn't need to be explained. But then, you're dealing with someone who's perspective is fantasy football and not the real thing.

We can debate whether the Jaguars have signed a true difference maker...or for that matter, whether the Jaguars SHOULD sign one at this point.
But there is a question to be asked. Caldwell said his goal this offseason is to improve the top 1/3 of the roster. Assuming the team signs Thurmond and/or Young, would you say at this early stage, he has achieved that goal yet? If not, would additional free agent signings do the trick, or would we have to wait until after the draft to be able to definitively state he's improved the top 1/3 of the roster? Worst to 1st. Curse Reversed!
Quote:You do remember we weren't even getting these type guys previously right? We got people that would take the money and run. Yes, but ask yourself, was that the culmination of a GM/ front office that was flawed in who they were targeting, or was it that we didn't have "Bradley" as the beacon? Quote:Let's not have the illusion that we could have ever been put "over the top" with a single free agency period. That's simply not realistic.Yeah...I regret that closing statement. No one guy, no matter how good, would have put this team over the top. But the larger point about being a difference maker/catalyst/game changer remains. That said, I like the signings thus far. It is a step in the right direction. Worst to 1st. Curse Reversed!
Quote:We can debate whether the Jaguars have signed a true difference maker...or for that matter, whether the Jaguars SHOULD sign one at this point.I don't think you can really make any evaluations at this point. Free agency has just begun, and there's been no draft. Once we're past the draft, and the team has had an opportunity to look at the remaining holes to see if they can be addressed with the remaining pool of free agents, then we can start to determine where the team is at. Even then, nothing is certain until these guys take the field and show what they can do. That's when we'll really see whether they've improved the top 1/3 of the roster or not. Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Quote:You're not smart enough to recognize the difference between Bradley being A factor as I'm asserting vs. Bradley being THE factor, which I did not imply. Way to be a moderator and still yet sink below yourself to insult people. I really don't get it and its bothering me. It doesn't matter how long he has been having unpopular opinions. Right or wrong. Doesnt matter. Why can't we as a small community learn to deal with unpopular opinions? Quote:What are you talking about, they signed Henne. He's definitely a difference maker.Still hung up on that huh?
