I'm curious, exactly what signing do you think would have put the Jaguars "over the top" this season?  

 

We are more then one or two players away from reaching the top.   You first shore up the foundation then think about building UP.  

 

Well...perhaps that was poorly phrased on my part.

 

Given the numerous holes on the roster, no one guy would have put the Jaguars "over the top."

 

But there was no guy signed that appears to give us a definite matchup advantage, either.

That said, I don't think Bradley being here has made an impact on significant roster improvement. Beadles came here because we overpaid him. There really is no evidence unless a player speaks out as to whether he has made an impact or not. It really all is irrelevant due to the fact that his record on the field is what matters. I don't care what type of players we have when we make it deep into the playoffs, Just as long as we do. Same goes for Caldwell.

 

Doesn't matter how you get there. All that matters is that you DO get there and stay there for years to come.

You're not smart enough to recognize the difference between Bradley being A factor as I'm asserting vs. Bradley being THE factor, which I did not imply. 

 

The money is always going to be the primary factor, but for a small market team who doesn't have deep pockets other large market franchises come to the table with, having that extra card to play can only help this team.  It's not difficult to understand.

WHew, glad we were able to seal the deal with Dekoda Watson due to having Bradley in tow.

Some of the signings were decent, inexpensive. Cog type. None of the signings made were really difference makers though. 

 

Your post just seems a bit silly, when you consider the type of signings we are making. I mean, if Bradley's presence was directly quoted for a player like a Jairus Byrd or Alex Mack signing, then thats one thing....but lol, c'mon...using it for signings like Watson & Willie Young is kinda funny. 

You do remember we weren't even getting these type guys previously right?  We got people that would take the money and run.

I'm of a mixed opinion on this topic.

 

On the one hand, it is good that finally we are active in free agency again.

 

I got sick of the Ketchmanite mantra of "No bargains the first week of free agency" every year, as other teams got good players.

 

I think the team had some decent signings thus far.  Bryant and Beadles upgrades LDE and LG, respectively.

 

Gerhart intrigues me and, if he gets the C and G, could be a very productive RB.  Almost like this generation's Keenan McCardell signing.

 

I am not AGAINST these signings so far, and I would applaud a Thurmond signing.

 

Furthermore, we need role players.  Not every free agent signing can be a top dollar, premiere guy.

 

But are these guys difference makers?  Are they catalysts?  Do any of these guys give us matchup advantages the way a shut down corner like Talib would?

 

I think these signings represent progress, but no one of these guys, at face value, appears to put the Jaguars "over the top."

 

Let's not have the illusion that we could have ever been put "over the top" with a single free agency period.  That's simply not realistic.

 

The addition of Bryant, Beadles, and Gearhart are plenty to be justifiably upbeat about.

 

The point is that players are gravitating towards Gus.  This is a feeling we haven't ever had here.  It's certainly something new, and something to watch, especially if it's something we can build on.

Being the guy who can help close the deal doesn't mean that's the only factor in getting there. 

 

I'd try to equate it to someone in the corporate world who is being courted by multiple companies, but it would fall on deaf ears since there isn't a mad dash to hire the best fry cook among fast food chains.

Actually, his title means EXACTLY what he just said.  Gus is A factor.  Not THE factor.  Once all the other items are on the table you bring in the closer to seal the deal.    That's what a closer is....one additional part that may put the finishing touch on the deal

Yeah...I regret that closing statement.  No one guy, no matter how good, would have put this team over the top.

I don't think you can really make any evaluations at this point.  Free agency has just begun, and there's been no draft. 

 

Once we're past the draft, and the team has had an opportunity to look at the remaining holes to see if they can be addressed with the remaining pool of free agents, then we can start to determine where the team is at. 

 

Even then, nothing is certain until these guys take the field and show what they can do.  That's when we'll really see whether they've improved the top 1/3 of the roster or not.
